State’s Mutual Aid System Already Put To Summer Test

California's firefighting mutual aid system continued working at full speed this past weekend, sending firefighters and resources from across the state to join the battle at 12 major wildfires threatening dozens of communities at both ends of the state. As of Saturday, July 15 there were more than 400 engines, four dozen aircraft and over 7,000 personnel working on wildfires that have already burned as much as 159,000 acres statewide.

Pump Prices Stay Steady

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have not moved in the past week, averaging $2.78/gallon on July 16, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.7 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.24/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

State Transportation Funding Buoyed By New Senate Bill

The California Transportation Commission (Commission) has adopted guidelines to implement portions of Senate Bill (SB) 1. The Commission's actions for the State Highway Operation and Protection Program (SHOPP), the Transportation Asset Management Plan, and the Active Transportation Program (ATP) are the first major step toward awarding the funds specific to those project areas. SB 1, signed by Governor Brown in April, provides the first significant and stable increase in state transportation funding to rebuild California in more than two decades.
