Council Meeting On Tuesday Night
Because of the Monday, July 4 Independence Day holiday, the Oakdale City Council will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. The council plans on discussing the new city manager in closed session and in public session will proclaim July 18, 2011, "Bob Gilbert Day in Oakdale" for Robert E. Gilbert and all his community contributions.
Local Congressman Hears Concerns
Capping off his morning travels on Tuesday June 28 with a lunch stop at the H–B Saloon, Congressman Jeff Denham heard from local constituents as he enjoyed the "Kim & Jim" special from the menu. "Our big focus right now is jobs," Denham said. "I'll be meeting with various businesses, chambers, and individuals to see what we can do in congress."
OVH Board Responds To Grand Jury
During the Oak Valley Hospital monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 22, the governing board released its written response to the Grand Jury Report from May 5 regarding Brown Act violations and not following established policy on awarding bids. Budget To Be Discussed At Monday's Council Meeting
The Oakdale City Council will vote to adopt the city's 2011-2012 operating budget at its regular meeting on Monday, June 20. Over the last three years the city has cut over $3.4 million from its general fund budget that has resulted in loss of personnel and services. Earlier this year, Former City Manager Steve Hallam asked department heads to cut 10 percent from their budgets to cover a $760,000 shortfall for the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
Public Safety Layoffs Averted
The City of Oakdale announced on Monday that proposed cuts to the fire and police departments would be delayed for at least seven months keeping public safety staffing at a status quo. The original presented budget in May proposed cutting two positions each to the fire and police departments. Hospital Names New CFO
At the Oak Valley Hospital Governing Board of Directors' meeting on May 25, Chief Executive Officer John Friel announced the hiring of a new chief financial officer for the hospital. John McCormick assumed CFO duties on May 24, replacing Wayne Mills who resigned on April 30 to accept a position with another healthcare organization in Yuba City.
Council Holding Special Meeting On Budget
The Oakdale City Council will be having a special meeting on city budget items on Thursday, May 19.
Airport Commission To Discuss Possible Disbandment
The Oakdale Airport Commission will be meeting tonight, May 12, at 7 p.m. at the Oakdale City Council Chambers. On the agenda is an item to discuss the city council's proposal for disbandment of the commission. The commission will also discuss updates on hangar leases and the annual airport inspection.
Fire Officials Admit Higher Fuel Concerns
With fire season around the corner, May 1-7 has been declared "Wildfire Awareness Week" in California. During the week, CAL FIRE is urging homeowners to be ready for wildfires. Wildfire Awareness Week is designed to not only remind Californians of the dangers wildfires pose, but also to educate them on how to prepare their property.
Shake Up At City Hall
In a surprising move, the Oakdale City Council voted 4-0, with Katherine Morgan unavailable, to release City Manager Steve Hallam during a closed session meeting on Monday April 25. Hallam, who has been with the city since 2001, has been Oakdale's city manager since 2006.
Public Works Deputy Director Put On Leave
Oakdale Deputy Director of Public Works and Airport Manager David Myers has been placed on paid administrative leave pending a hearing date. City Manager Steve Hallam confirmed Myers was placed on leave earlier this month but would not provide any specifics about the case citing that it was a pending personnel matter and out of respect for Myers' privacy. Tuolumne Supervisors Approve Cooperstown Quarry
In an expected move on Tuesday April 5, the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved a 135-acre mine located in southwest Tuolumne County, adjacent to Stanislaus County, off Cooperstown Road. Jack and Tricia Gardella and The Resource Exploration and Drilling Company proposed the project that will mine over 55 million tons of crushed rock over a 75-year period. The mined rock would be used for road construction, railroad track ballast and other industrial uses.

Testicle Festival This Monday
Tickets are still on sale for the 30th annual Oakdale Testicle Festival to take place this Monday, March 28, at 7p.m. Since 2001, the Oakdale Cowboy Museum has teamed up with Oakdale Rotary for the popular annual dinner of "mountain oysters," a delicacy of fried bull testicles, served at the F.E.S. Commuters Backed Up On 99 For Hours When Ladder Causes Truck Rollover
Update: Traffic was still at a crawl as of 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon slowing motorists who were driving northbound on Highway 99 between the Highway 120 Bypass and Yosemite Avenue. Tow trucks had pulled the truck around into one lane leaving the other lane open to allow restricted traffic flow on the freeway.
