On Wednesday night, Jan. 18 five Oakdale wrestling seniors were honored in front of the large crowd attending a Valley Oak League double dual meet inside the OHS Main Gym. Seniors Jake Abeyta, Trey Smith, Luis Ayala, Esteban Villasenor and Abel Garcia were all recognized on Senior Night 2017.
After winning their first Valley Oak League game a week ago, the varsity soccer girls returned to action but came up short in two contests. Oakdale (3-11, 1-6) were shut out by Kimball (5-10-1, 3-3-1) on Tuesday, Jan. 17 by a score of 3-0 at home and lost by a 5-1 final to visiting Central Catholic (8-3-1, 5-1) just two days later.

It's hard to believe that this time last year, many of us were hoping that we would have enough rain to finally end the drought. Fast forward to today, I'm wondering if this rain is ever going to stop. Weather is so unpredictable. Even today, with all the latest technology, I don't recall anyone last year predicting that we would have this amount of rain. Many experts in the field predicted the opposite. Oakdale wrestlers competed twice this week. The boys hit the road for the second Valley Oak League dual meet of the season, and also competed at the 2017 Tim Brown Memorial over the weekend. On Wednesday night, Jan. 11 Oakdale traveled to Sierra High School to take on both Kimball and Sierra in the double dual meet. Oakdale's varsity dismissed Kimball 72-0 and followed up with a 64-15 victory over Sierra to take the meet. The junior varsity boys also made short work of the league foes, winning 60-9 over Kimball and 64-12 over Sierra.
The football community filed into the Oakdale High School main gym on Sunday night, Jan. 15 for the annual Mustangs football awards ceremony. With the stands (and doorways) packed with spectators and players from all three levels of Mustang football, varsity head coach Trent Merzon and his coaching staff honored the State's Division 3A Champions, along with the junior varsity and freshman players who took part in a memorable season.

After a slow start to the Valley Oak League campaign, the Oakdale varsity girls soccer team won its first league match of the season. Entering Thursday's road game against Weston Ranch 0-4 in league play, Oakdale shut out the Cougars by a 4-0 final to earn the victory. It was a tough week for the varsity girls basketball team. On Wednesday night, Jan. 11 the girls lost on a last second three-point shot by East Union to fall 42-41 and two nights later the girls dropped their third straight game with a 49-44 home loss to Weston Ranch.
An undefeated season for the eighth grade Oakdale Junior High School girls basketball team earned them a championship. The girls went 17-0, and have compiled a 23-1 mark over their last 24 games, dating back to last season.
In two games this past week, Oakdale found the net 10 times to earn two Valley Oak League victories. Oakdale shut out Lathrop on the road 7-0 on Monday night, Jan. 9 and continued to have a big week with a 3-1 home win over Weston Ranch two nights later.
