State Of Mind - Five Mustang Wrestlers Earn Tickets To CIF Championships

After erroneously reported results gave Ceres High wrestler Gabe Balderas a fictional triumph over Oakdale's Juan Garza in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV finals and a subsequent higher state and section ranking, Balderas had the opportunity to deliver a genuine victory when the two met in the finals of the SJS Masters Championships on Friday at the Stockton Arena.

Pinning Down History

Oakdale High's wrestling program kept the longest active streak of Sac-Joaquin Section Team Dual titles alive with consecutive victories to snare the Division IV banner on Saturday at Lincoln High in Stockton. Mustang grapplers won 25 of 28 total matches across the day to collect their fourth straight such honor and fifth in the past six seasons. The team will host the Valley Oak League Individual Championships on Saturday. Athlete of the Week - Hondo Arpoika

With over 400 wrestlers packed into multiple brackets for all 14 weight classes, the 2012 Lloyd C. Engel Tournament in Escalon earlier this month proved to be one of the toughest local tournaments this season. Oakdale junior Hondo Arpoika made the most of his trip to Escalon with a first place title in the 'A' bracket at 195 pounds.

Lady Mustangs Earn Pair of VOL Wins

Head coach Larry Loger and his varsity softball girls are reminding teams why they're the defending Sac-Joaquin Section champions. The Lady Mustangs improved to 15-7 overall and more importantly 7-1 in league play after an 8-5 road victory over Kimball and an 18-0 shellacking of winless Weston Ranch on Thursday, April 16 at home.

Mustangs Keep Up Hectic Pace For Track, Field

On top of their Valley Oak League meet against Sierra on Thursday, March 26, the best of the best in high school varsity track and field came out to The Corral on Friday, March 27 for the annual County vs. County meet. Eighteen schools from both Stanislaus and Merced counties competed under the hot Oakdale early spring sun.

OHS Baseball Splits Two Wild Games With Manteca

The varsity Oakdale Mustangs opened the 2015 Valley Oak League season playing a home and home stand with the Manteca Buffaloes this past week. On Wednesday, March 18 the boys escaped with a wild 21-15 road win. Down 9-3 after three innings, Oakdale exploded with nine runs in the top half of the fourth and never looked back. Nolen Legan powered the Mustangs with his four hit, five RBI day. The Mustangs outscored the Buffaloes 18-6 in the final four innings of play.
