Oakdale's cross country teams competed at Eagal Lakes in Tracy this past week in the Valley Oak League (VOL) Cross Country Championship meet. The six Oakdale teams combined for four second place finishes, a fourth place finish by the junior varsity boys and a championship for the junior varsity girls.
For the third consecutive year, the Oakdale Lady Mustangs have clinched the Valley Oak League title. Oakdale defeated Central Catholic on the road in four sets (25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21) on Monday, Oct. 24. Oakdale then welcomed Lathrop to town on Wednesday night, Oct. 26 for Senior Night 2016. With a packed gym the Lady Mustangs honored their five seniors, and then won their third Valley Oak League title in as many years, knocking off Lathrop in three sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-9).
The Oakdale Mustangs (7-2, 5-1) traveled to Manteca (8-1, 5-1) to take on the Buffaloes in a battle of two Valley Oak League powerhouses. Oakdale went into Manteca winners of seven straight games but fell behind early and could not pull off the late fourth quarter rally, as Oakdale fell to Manteca 30-22 on Friday night, Oct. 28.
The 16th annual Toyota NHRA Nationals at the Lasa Vegas Motor Speedway (commonly known as the "Strip") is the next to last event of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag racing Series season and the fourth of the six events in the final countdown to the championship.

The season will continue into the postseason for both the Oakdale Stampede varsity and junior varsity teams. On Saturday, Oct. 28 the boys headed to Modesto to clash with the Broncos. A pair of convincing road wins punched the Stampede playoff tickets. The varsity boys defeated Modesto 46-6 and the junior varsity shut out Modesto 48-0.
For those of us who've been fishing a while, I'm sure we've all heard the term "turnover" used. Turnover can happen several times during the year but is most commonly discussed during the fall. Recently I was both humbled and honored to be invited to fish a local tournament with someone that I introduced to the sport of bass fishing when he was 12 years old. He's continued to fish, has his own boat, and is now 25 years old. We've never lost contact and have occasionally fished together over the years. The difference this time is that we'll be on his boat, and he'll be the one making all the decisions. It's going to be nice having someone else at the controls for a change and truly relaxing ...
The Valley Oak League season has ended for the Oakdale girls tennis team and will come to a close for the Oakdale volleyball club tonight. Both teams have had a successful regular season and are gearing up for playoffs.
Both the boys and girls water polo teams celebrated the careers of their senior athletes this week, prior to their matches against visiting Kimball. Fans, friends and family members of the team all made their way to the OHS Aquatics Center on Thursday night, Oct. 20 to honor the seniors.
It is that time of the year, Oakdale Wrestling Club will be conducting sign-ups for their youth wrestling program. The season begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and it is not too late to sign up. Practices are held three days a week Tuesday through Thursday. Practice for wrestlers in first and second grade will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oakdale Junior High School. First year wrestlers that are in the third and fourth grade, will wrestle with the first and second grade grapplers.
As the Valley Oak League season's end approaches, the Oakdale Lady Mustangs are eyeing three Valley Oak League titles. For the girls golf, girls tennis and volleyball clubs the goal of becoming champions is within arm's reach.
