A wrestler's job is never done. Although some wrestlers just wrestle during the winter, many Oakdale wrestlers stay busy on the mats year round to keep up with their high standards. Oakdale High School's wrestling program has been a powerhouse for well over a decade and it is due to their hard efforts on and off the mat. Seven of the team's wrestlers will be joining in the fourth annual Gilroy Wrestling Midcals Elite Summer Camp. The three day camp opens on Friday, June 17 and concludes on Sunday, June 19 at Gilroy High School.
For the fourth time in as many years Oakdale's Hannah Chappell will be heading to the State Championships in discus. Chappell continued her dominance at the Section level with a win at the CIF Masters Meet this past week.
This Memorial Day weekend, nearly 40 youth track and field teams will invade Oakdale High School for the 11th annual Tom Moore Youth Classic Meet. This free to the public two day event begins on Saturday, May 28 at 8 a.m. and resumes Sunday at 8 a.m. for the finals.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is now accepting applications for the 2016 Big Game Drawing. Applications for elk, antelope, bighorn sheep, premium deer tags and fundraising drawing tags may be submitted anywhere California fishing or hunting licenses are sold. Applications must be submitted before midnight on June 2, 2016.
Oakdale's varsity baseball team's roller coaster season came to an abrupt halt on Monday, May 16. The eighth seeded Mustangs hosted the ninth seeded Pioneer in the first round of the 2016 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section DIII playoffs, and fell short 2-1.

The 2016 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III softball tournament began this past week with Oakdale as the number two seed. First on tap for the Lady Mustangs were the 15th ranked Cordova Lancers on Tuesday, May 17. In a rematch from last year's first round playoff game, where Cordova won 6-1, it was Oakdale who came out on top this time, 13-3, at Sacramento Softball Complex.
An article in the May 11 issue of The Leader incorrectly reported a new record holder for the varsity girls soccer team as having 24 goals this season, according to information provided to the newspaper. The actual record, however, was set by Ashley Arnett with a total of 42 goals scored in 2015. Arnett finished that 2015 season with a total of 106 points on 42 goals and 22 assists for the Lady Mustangs.
