It was over 100 degrees in Oakdale on Saturday, June 17 and the Oakdale Aquatics Masters cooled off when the team hosted a five city meet in Oakdale. Teams from Lodi, Manteca, Tracy and Sonora competed against Oakdale in the first meet of the season.

Oakdale's youth swimming team, the Gators, hit the road this past weekend. The young swimmers packed up and visited Pitman High School in Turlock for a meet against the Turlock Aquatic Club. This was the Gators second meet of the year, and first on the road.

All week long I was being asked by my wife what I wanted for Father's Day. Like a lot of fathers, Father's Day kind of snuck up on us and really anything is appreciated. I'm easy; I was just as happy BBQing at home for the family as if we went out to an expensive restaurant for dinner. Actually, I'd rather be home with my family! For four years, Bryce Kirk was the signal caller for the Oakdale Mustangs varsity baseball team. When Kirk first stepped on the baseball field at the varsity level his freshman year, he was shy and quiet. To outsiders he did not seem like a typical catcher. However, Kirk put all doubts aside when he took the squat behind the dish. The young man solidified his spot on the team and from day one, Kirk has been one of the marquee players in the respectable program.

The Oakdale Sandlot 12u baseball team took first place honors in their age division with a recent 4-2 win over Get Dirty from Modesto. They played the spring season in the Rainbow Fields Spring Youth Baseball League. The team consists of coaches Anthony Eberhardt, Chris Pereira, Daniel Krause, and Jason Daley. The players from top, left to right are: Hunter Baptista, Alex Jones, Jacob Guinard, Dustin Hoeksta, Dax Daley, Ryan Krause, Donovan Johnson, Grant Edwards, Cooper Pitney, Erik Robles, Ryder Pereira, and Jace Eberhardt.

The 50th annual Outstanding Athlete Awards (OAA) program staged recently at the S.O.S. Club in Modesto saw plenty of hardware coming Oakdale's way. The night honored local athletes for their 2016 accomplishments. Oakdale was the big winner of the evening where players and coaches from the past – as well as from the present – were honored.

I finally have some time off, but before I can get out fishing, I have a bunch of jobs that have been waiting for me around my house. Like a lot of people, the weather we had this year made it nearly impossible to do any work outside, or caused damage that needs to be repaired.
