The NASCAR K&N Series West series arrived at Sonoma Raceway in Wine Country on Saturday, prior to Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. Over the course of 64 laps around the 1.990-mile road course there were many on track incidents and lead changes.

Since moving to Oakdale in 2012, 68-year-old Eric Hoff has been on the local senior softball scene. Hoff is a pitcher for the Animals, a senior softball team based out of Modesto. Over the years, Hoff has accumulated seven championship rings in senior softball.
Plans are underway for upcoming Volksport Walks at Brushy Peak near Livermore and Calaveras State Park near Manteca. You can learn all about these group walks for fun and fitness at the Delta Tule Trekkers' monthly meeting on Monday, July 11 at CK Grill, 14725 S. Harlan Road, Lathrop. It seems like every year it's becoming harder and harder to be without a Wi-Fi signal while out camping. It's a reminder to me of just how much technology is becoming part of my life. Former Oakdale High School varsity softball standout Hanna Holland has wrapped up her sophomore season at Humboldt State University. The center fielder and the Lumber Jacks made it to the postseason but fell to North Alabama one game before the National Championship. Not all was lost, though, as Holland led the team in batting average at .413, on base percentage (.520), runs scored (58), hits (83) walks (42) and set a school record with 70 stolen bases, shattering the previous record of 53.
The thermometer has reached triple digits in Oakdale and that means it is time to hit the pool. For the local youth swim team known as the Oakdale Gators, they did just that this past weekend. The swimmers went on the road to Turlock for their most recent action.
Travis Kent, a senior at Valley Oak Charter School of Oakdale, has qualified for the 68th annual National High School Finals Rodeo. Known as "The World's Largest Rodeo" the weeklong event begins July 17 and wraps up on July 23 in Gillette, Wyoming.
For four days The Corral on the Oakdale High School campus was the host of the Armature Athletic Union (AAU) Region 22 Qualifier, as over 450 youth competitors came out to take part in the track and field events. Athletes from the local area and as far away as Oregon packed The Corral where over 900 total medals where given out to the youngsters ranging in age from 4 to 18 years old.
Oakdale Academy, a private Christian school, is adding a new class for kindergarten through third grade, expanding to include all elementary grade levels, K-8. The initial concept of a one-room classroom that includes fourth through eighth grade has just completed its third year of operation with great success. Oakdale Academy is earning an excellent reputation; one of academic rigor in a Christian environment.
With four players and three varsity coaches on the West staff, Oakdale made its presence known on Saturday night, June 11 at the 27th annual Modesto Sunrise Rotary Baseball Classic. Oakdale Mustangs Sean Gingerich, Ben Solorio, Bryce Kirk and Logan Hall all made the trip to Stanislaus State in Turlock for the game. Along with the boys, varsity OHS coaches Nate Gregory, Joe Peterson and Eric Brink made up the West coaching staff along with Gregori coach Jim Davis.
