Two second half goals by Oakdale followed by two retaliation yellow cards by rival Sonora was the story of the regular season finale 2-0 win last week for the varsity soccer Mustangs.
Oakdale improved to 15-4-4 overall with a 4-1 win at home against East Union on Oct. 22, dropping the Lancers to 3-12-2 overall this season. They took a 2-0 win against Kimball on the road (Oct. 24) and claimed the Valley Oak League title with a Monday, Oct. 28 2-2 tie with 15-5-3 Weston Ranch. Goals from senior Davis Harper and sophomore David Serrano helped the Mustangs officially clinch the Valley Oak League title, getting the lone point they needed with the draw.
For the second year in a row, the Class of 2014 – "Best You've Seen" according to their motto – claimed the Homecoming Week Powder Puff championship.
Homecoming Week is only considered complete when the varsity football team comes up with a victory.
Oakdale's varsity Lady Mustangs downed Weston Ranch at home 25-17, 25-16, 25-16 on the volleyball court, keeping their home record spotless at 7-0 and dropping the Cougars to 5-8 overall. Christina Cobarruvias had six aces on the game for Oakdale, while Lauren Ott, Kaitlyn Van Ryn, Jennifer Guzman and Brittany Carpenter had several kills each.
Oakdale's women's water polo team improved to 11-2, 2-0 in league play with a 15-1 win at home over Ripon this week. Unfortunately the Indians got revenge on the other side, topping the Mustang boys.
