One of my first bait casting reels cost me less than $50 back in the early '80s. As time went on, the price of bait casting reels continued to rise. New California State Parks Reservation System In Effect

California State Parks is offering the public tips on how to access the Golden State's new reservation system – ReserveCalifornia. Taking effect as of Aug. 1, visitors to California's state parks now have a new platform for booking camping and lodging sites, and tours. Using the new system will be easy to plan adventures within state parks, since it is similar to booking hotels, airline tickets and other comparable services.

NHRA Thunders Into The Wine Country Of Sonoma

The 30th annual NHRA Toyota Sonoma Nationals featured several surprises. The biggest was Robert Hight in Funny Car. Driving his "California Highway Patrol" tribute Chevy Camaro, Hight set the drag racing world on its ears in the second round of qualifying Friday night. Annual Altamirano Benefit Tournament Slated Saturday

Coming up this weekend, it's the Eighth Annual Grant Altamirano Horseshoe Tournament and BBQ at Hogan Park at the Escalon Community Center, 1051 Escalon Ave. on Saturday, Aug. 5. This is held to contribute to the educational trust fund for Grant's two children and a scholarship in Grant's name is also being established this year to be awarded annually to Escalon High School student-athletes as Grant was a recipient of the Engel Award for Outstanding Athlete while attending EHS.

Oakdale Hosts WSRRA Event

On Saturday, July 22, the Oakdale Saddle Club celebrated the National Day of the Cowboy by hosting its' annual Ranch Rodeo. Local cowboys and cowgirls, as well as several from other counties came to compete in events that simulate what a full-time and day-working cowboy does. This was a Western States Ranch Rodeo Association (WSRRA) sanctioned event. Open and women's divisions competed in sort, rope and doctor, calf-branding, team roping and trailer load and tie. DeAnda Falls In Controversial Fight

Angel "The Dream" DeAnda headlined the second episode in Dana White's Tuesday Night Contenders online show in Las Vegas. DeAnda took on Daniel Spohn in the main event of the evening on July, 18 in front of Dana White with a contract for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) online. "The people at the UFC were great to me. They definitely take care of their fighters. They had a great food package available for me upon arrival and made me feel like home," the 185-pound DeAnda said.

Second Annual Stampede Meet and Greet Scores Big

Families, coaches, players and cheerleaders gathered at Kerr Park this past weekend for the second annual Stampede Meet and Greet. Nearly 150 people braved the triple digit weather but were cooled off by sno-cones and other treats that were offered at the event.

School is just around the corner and for some it can be a scary place. Bullying is more common and at a new level with cyber bullying. Perez Heading To Huntsville For College Soccer

The calendar year of 2016 may not have been very memorable for the injured Makenzie Perez, but 2017 has so far been unforgettable for the soccer standout. Perez graduated from Oakdale High School in late May and on July 13 she officially signed with the University of Alabama-Huntsville to play goalkeeper for the Chargers. The signing took place at Bonsu Elite Athletics in Ceres, where she has been training.

All Pro Wrestling Returns To Stockton

For over 20 years, All Pro Wrestling has entertained fans all over the Bay Area. On Friday, Aug. 18 All Pro Wrestling makes its way into the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium.
