Varsity Soccer Girls Earn First VOL Win Of Season

After a slow start to the Valley Oak League campaign, the Oakdale varsity girls soccer team won its first league match of the season. Entering Thursday's road game against Weston Ranch 0-4 in league play, Oakdale shut out the Cougars by a 4-0 final to earn the victory. Oakdale scored two goals in the first half and did not slow down in the second. Sophomores Brianna Montoya and Gabriela Mayo each scored two goals and both added assists for the Lady Mustangs. Heartbreaking Losses For Varsity Lady Mustangs

It was a tough week for the varsity girls basketball team. On Wednesday night, Jan. 11 the girls lost on a last second three-point shot by East Union to fall 42-41 and two nights later the girls dropped their third straight game with a 49-44 home loss to Weston Ranch.

Eighth Grade Girls Claim MVAL Title

An undefeated season for the eighth grade Oakdale Junior High School girls basketball team earned them a championship. The girls went 17-0, and have compiled a 23-1 mark over their last 24 games, dating back to last season.

OHS Varsity Soccer Boys Find Offensive Rhythm

In two games this past week, Oakdale found the net 10 times to earn two Valley Oak League victories. Oakdale shut out Lathrop on the road 7-0 on Monday night, Jan. 9 and continued to have a big week with a 3-1 home win over Weston Ranch two nights later.

Seventh Grade Girls Make Hoops History

In his first year as a teacher and coach at Oakdale Junior High School, Bobby Cole took on the seventh grade girls basketball team and turned them into champions. The girls went 17-0 on the year and won the MVAL, Mid Valley Athletic League, tournament.

Varsity Hoop Girls Split League Games

The Oakdale girls varsity basketball team opened up league action this past week and went 1-1. Both games were on the road, the varsity Lady Mustangs having won the Valley Oak League opener against Sierra 46-39 but then falling to Kimball 61-29 two days later.

Varsity Basketball Boys Drop Pair Of VOL Games

The Oakdale boys varsity basketball tipped off Valley Oak League action this past week. With a pair of home league games to start the season, Oakdale fell to both visiting Sierra and Kimball in close games. On Tuesday night, Jan. 3 the boys fell to Sierra 58-47 and followed that up with a heartbreaking 42-37 loss to Kimball on Thursday night.

Youth Basketball Camp

The Oakdale boys basketball program is offering a winter skills camp for young basketball players. Boys in grades five through eight are encouraged to sign up for the basketball camp to work on their skills on both the offensive and defensive side of the floor. Coached by OHS varsity coach Hondo Arpoika, his staff and players, this camp is set to begin on Saturday, Feb. 4 and end on Friday, March 3. Mustang Wrestlers Battle During Busy Travel Week

Coming off their impressive East Coast trip, Oakdale wrestlers made short work of Central Catholic on Wednesday night, Jan. 4. The 61-18 Mustang victory secured Oakdale's first Valley Oak League dual win of the season. Over the weekend Oakdale sent six wrestlers to Clovis to compete in the Doc Buchanan Invite. When the dust settled in that two-day tournament, three Mustangs took the podium. Colbey Harlan, Abel Garcia and Ricky Torres all took honors at the tournament.

Tough Times Continue For Lady Mustang Soccer

With rain falling from the darkened sky, and plenty of mud puddles on the field, the Oakdale Lady Mustangs played their lone soccer game of the week on Wednesday night, Jan. 4. It had been three weeks since the girls took the field due to the holiday break. The girls hosted Sierra and things took a bad turn for Oakdale early as Sierra jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half. Sierra found the net three more times in the second half capping off the 11-0 home loss for Oakdale.

Benedictine College Next Stop For OHS Alum Trent

Former Oakdale High School football standout Frankie Trent has spent the last two years in Chico. Trent dazzled Mustang fans on Friday nights while in Oakdale, and during his time at Butte Community College, Trent made an impact on Saturdays. The popular fullback will be taking his talents to Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas this fall.

Valley Oak League Play For Soccer Boys

After a long holiday absence from the field, Oakdale's soccer squads returned to action for a pair of Valley Oak League games. For the first time since Dec. 14 the boys varsity and junior varsity teams hit the field. Oakdale traveled to Modesto to take on Central Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 3 where the varsity Mustangs tied the Raiders 3-3. Oakdale then hosted Sierra on Thursday night, Jan. 5 on a muddy field and light rain coming down. The Mustangs fell to Sierra 3-2.
