Fishing Report

Competitive bass fishing like every other sport, has its winners and losers. I personally don't know of a more humbling sport. Many anglers like to practice before a big tournament. They're not necessarily trying to hook the fish, instead they're trying to gauge whether or not an area is productive by the numbers of bites they get. OHS Alumnus Farquer Qualifies For CNFR Finals

Former Oakdale High School graduate Colton Farquer will be saddling up and heading to Casper, Wyoming for the 2016 College National Finals Rodeo. Farquer, a current student at Cal Poly, is a champion tie down roper and will be competing in the seven-day event that begins Sunday, June 12 and wraps up on Saturday, June 18.

Girls Soccer Awards Presented For Season

Although the Oakdale Lady Mustangs varsity soccer team fell short of making the postseason, the girls had a productive campaign and were awarded for their efforts. In what varsity girls head coach Alfredo Quiroga described as a "last second scramble" the team held their awards ceremony recently. Nine varsity and six junior varsity girls were honored for their play in the 2015-2016 season.

Life Preserver Loaner Program Takes Effect

The Kids Don't Float Program, which provides life preservers for borrowed use to visitors enjoying the Mokelumne River, began its summer season in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. The program got underway on Saturday, May 28this year and this marks the seventh year for Kids Don't Float, which was conceived as a result of a tragic drowning on the river in April, 2009.

Fishing Report

Expect the waterways to be crowded if you're planning on heading out, now that the 'summer' season has started. Last year I fished on Sunday and Monday during Memorial Day weekend and surprisingly didn't have to deal with a lot of boat traffic. My secret was to fish very early on both days, while making sure to be off the water around noon. One of the lakes I visited was Lake Pardee. Seven Oakdale Wrestlers Heading To Gilroy Camp

A wrestler's job is never done. Although some wrestlers just wrestle during the winter, many Oakdale wrestlers stay busy on the mats year round to keep up with their high standards. Oakdale High School's wrestling program has been a powerhouse for well over a decade and it is due to their hard efforts on and off the mat. Seven of the team's wrestlers will be joining in the fourth annual Gilroy Wrestling Midcals Elite Summer Camp. The three day camp opens on Friday, June 17 and concludes on Sunday, June 19 at Gilroy High School.

Hunters Urged To Submit Applications For Big Game

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is now accepting applications for the 2016 Big Game Drawing. Applications for elk, antelope, bighorn sheep, premium deer tags and fundraising drawing tags may be submitted anywhere California fishing or hunting licenses are sold. Applications must be submitted before midnight on June 2, 2016.
