Rain Dampens Mustang Schedule

Chalk one up for Mother Nature. As much as the area needed the rain to fall, it made things difficult for Oakdale High School athletes to compete. Boys tennis, all softball levels and freshman baseball all fell victim to the weather.

Oakdale Swimmers Blast Past Cougars In Pool

The Oakdale Mustang swim program made short work of visiting Weston Ranch this past Friday. Oakdale's varsity girls team defeated the Cougars 109-4 and the varsity boys swam away from Weston Ranch 76-23 at the Oakdale Aquatic Center.

Varsity Baseball Sees Mixed Results, JV Wins Two

The varsity Oakdale High School Mustangs baseball team continued to battle in non-conference play this past week. Oakdale played two games and went 1-1 in the process. On Tuesday Oakdale went to Turlock to take on Pitman, winning there in a 6-3 final. Thursday afternoon at home, however, the Mustangs fell to visiting Cosumnes Oaks by a score of 4-2.

Donovan Named Stanislaus State Director Of Athletics

Terry Donovan, who for the past three years has served as Fresno State's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations, has been named Director of Athletics at Stanislaus State, a role he will assume on May 1.

Management Council Chooses Salmon Season Options

The Pacific Fishery Management Council has adopted for public review three alternatives for the 2018 salmon seasons off the West Coast of the United States. The Council will select a final alternative at its next meeting in Portland, Oregon April 6-11. Detailed information about season starting dates, areas open, and catch limits for all three alternatives are available on the Council's website at www.pcouncil.org.

Mustang Golfers Continue Winning Ways

The Mustang varsity boys golf team improved to 4-0 in Valley Oak League play this past week. With a 194-257 win over Lathrop, the Mustangs are sitting on top of the league standings. Paced by Max Moore who shot 36 on the day, Oakdale handed Lathrop its first loss of the season.

Fishing Report

Recently while fishing a tournament on the Delta, I was faced by my nemesis. The weather and tide were working perfectly together. There are certain tides that the fish seem to prefer. Occasionally, there's a tide that's different than any other. That tide occurred this past weekend. It was a plus tide with very little water fluctuation from high to low tide, and the weather was cloudy. It pretty much stayed high tide all day long. Strong Outing For Mustangs At County Meet

Oakdale's track and field season opened up on Thursday, March 8 when they welcomed in Weston Ranch. Oakdale made short work of the visiting Cougars at all levels. The varsity boys won 78-48, while the varsity girls destroyed the opposition with a 117-6 win.

Mustang Golfers Take Second In Oakdale Cup

It was a busy week for the Oakdale golf team, and a successful one. The Mustang boys started the week by hosting the 2018 Oakdale Cup at Oakdale Golf and Country Club on Monday, March 5. A total of 19 schools from the Sac-Joaquin Section participated in the event with Vista Del Lago taking first place with a score of 397. Oakdale finished second overall at 417 strokes, playing a solid team game in their own tournament.
