Football Mustangs Continue To Dominate League Play

For the third straight week, Oakdale's varsity football team made short work of its opposition. After a competitive league opener against Sierra, the last three games have been a bit of a laugher. Since week one's 28-25 road win over Sierra, Oakdale (6-1, 4-0) has scored at least 40 points per game. This past Friday night, celebrated as Mustang Homecoming, that streak continued as Oakdale manhandled visiting East Union (5-2, 2-2) 42-6.

Fishing Report

When I think about fishing in October, I think about great weather, great fishing, and the opening of duck hunting season. Primarily on the Delta, the duck hunters are currently racing around the Delta setting up all their blinds for the opening of the season. For the most part, they usually stick to the many flooded islands and less populated areas. There are a few though, that seem to have permanent residence near or around a few of my favorite fishing areas. I'm surprised that we aren't on a first name basis. Years ago when I was tournament ...

Supercross Challenge

As if a 4000 meter race is not enough to take its toll on the body physically, several different obstacles surrounded the course at Hughson's Supercross race as well. The annual event – just under two-and-a-half miles – took place on Saturday, Oct. 15 and Oakdale overcame the difficult course as both the varsity boys and varsity girls took second place overall. Hay bales and a 40-foot mud bog proved to be no match for the Mustang squads.

Tight Lines

When I was about 10 years old our dad would take my brother Chris and I along with him when he went trout fishing. One rainy Saturday along the Tuolumne River dad taught us how to build a fire in the rain. He found a big overhanging rock and we got a got a fire going out in front of it. The heat reflected back off the big rock and we were warm and dry as toast. It rained all day and we had a great time.
