The Manteca Futbol Club Rebels boys soccer team is looking for players born in 2005 to bolster the team in the midfield and defensive line. The team, which includes players from Manteca, Escalon and Ripon, competes at the Silver level and recently began its fall season. The Rebels will play in at least two more tournaments before the end of the year, including the Breakers Cup in Santa Cruz in October. Oakdale's Buddy Wallace competed in the new hit series, Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Wallace, who trains out of Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts Academy, traveled to Las Vegas to take on Charles Byrd in front of Ultimate Fighting Championship owner Dana White and other UFC representatives. However, Wallace was caught off guard by Byrd in the second round, resulting in a loss via rear naked choke.

This past Saturday literally was known as "Scrimmage Saturday" on the Oakdale High School campus. Parking spaces were at a premium, as a pair of fall sports teams hosted events and the local Oakdale Stampede youth football program filled The Corral.

This past weekend the Oakdale Stampede hosted the CenCal Youth Football Round Robin scrimmage. Local teams from the league came to the new field inside The Corral at Oakdale High School. Players at all levels suited up and played one another in the scrimmage action, which lasted throughout the day on Saturday, Aug. 19.

With school now back in session, student athletes have also returned to the practice facilities. Oakdale High School offers a variety of fall sports on campus. Football, volleyball, girls tennis, water polo for both boys and girls, co-ed cross country and girls golf will be the focus of these athletes and their fans.

Oakdale resident and Mixed Martial Arts fighter Buddy "Braveheart" Wallace has had an interesting two weeks. On Aug. 5 Wallace (15-6) defeated Mike Morales (7-8) in a middleweight bout at Global Knockout 10 at Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort.
