Kent Qualifies For National Finals

Travis Kent, a senior at Valley Oak Charter School of Oakdale, has qualified for the 68th annual National High School Finals Rodeo. Known as "The World's Largest Rodeo" the weeklong event begins July 17 and wraps up on July 23 in Gillette, Wyoming.

Big Turnout Seen For Local AAU Event

For four days The Corral on the Oakdale High School campus was the host of the Armature Athletic Union (AAU) Region 22 Qualifier, as over 450 youth competitors came out to take part in the track and field events. Athletes from the local area and as far away as Oregon packed The Corral where over 900 total medals where given out to the youngsters ranging in age from 4 to 18 years old.

Oakdale Academy Expands To Include K-Third Grades

Oakdale Academy, a private Christian school, is adding a new class for kindergarten through third grade, expanding to include all elementary grade levels, K-8. The initial concept of a one-room classroom that includes fourth through eighth grade has just completed its third year of operation with great success. Oakdale Academy is earning an excellent reputation; one of academic rigor in a Christian environment.

Oakdale Players Propel West In All-Star Win

With four players and three varsity coaches on the West staff, Oakdale made its presence known on Saturday night, June 11 at the 27th annual Modesto Sunrise Rotary Baseball Classic. Oakdale Mustangs Sean Gingerich, Ben Solorio, Bryce Kirk and Logan Hall all made the trip to Stanislaus State in Turlock for the game. Along with the boys, varsity OHS coaches Nate Gregory, Joe Peterson and Eric Brink made up the West coaching staff along with Gregori coach Jim Davis.

Annual 5K Run/Walk Promotes Brain Health

Here's a chance for you to run or walk for the health of that very important "muscle" in your body … your brain. Join in for the Second Annual Brain Health 5K Run/Walk, being held on Saturday morning, June 25, at McLeod Lake Park in Stockton. This special event benefits Healings in Motion, an organization that provides local educational programs and services, supporting brain health, stroke awareness, and prevention.

Mustang Baseball Well Represented In All-VOL

The Mustang varsity baseball team finished second in the competitive Valley Oak League (VOL) this season after going 10-4 during the campaign. Oakdale's season came to an end in the playoffs, but Mustang players made an impression on their peers, earning seven total selections for the 2016 All-League honors. Earning the votes from the other seven coaches in the league, the Mustangs have four first team honorees, three second team honorees and three honorable mentions to their credit.

Open Water Festival Aids Alcatraz Prep

Members of the Oakdale Aquatics Masters swim team competed recently in the Lake Del Valle Open Water Festival. Oakdale residents Ray Jackson and Arijaan Bulk participated in the Livermore event in preparation for the Alcatraz crossing event that is scheduled for later this summer. Both swimmers took part in the 1.25 kilometer race on Sunday, June 12. Bulk finished the race in 28:44.90 and Jackson at 32:54.60. Along with Jackson and Bulk, fellow Masters Ed Mageean and Dana Macabales also made the trip to Livermore. Macabales swam the 1.25 kilometer and 2.5 kilometer ...

The hard hitting world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is heading to the SaveMart Center for Bellator 156. Three of Oakdale MMA's own are scheduled to appear at the event on Friday night, June 17 in front of a sold out crowd in Fresno.

Fishing Report

This summer so far hasn't turned out the way I planned it several months ago. In a perfect world, I'd be on the water or in a campsite every day until it was time for me to go back to work. Chappell Takes Third In Final State Meet

A four year career came to a close for OHS senior Hannah Chappell this past weekend. The Alabama bound discus thrower competed in her final high school track and field event and went out with a bang. Chappell overcame the overwhelmingly high heat under the Clovis sun that reached triple digits.

Trekkers Plan Events

Plans are underway for upcoming Volksport Walks at Treasure Island and Donner Memorial State Park. You can learn all about these group walks for fun and fitness at the Delta Tule Trekkers' monthly meeting on Monday, June 13 at CK Grill, 14725 S. Harlan Road, Lathrop. Four-Day AAU Event Coming To Oakdale

The Olympic Games are heading to Rio this summer, but Oakdale will be hosting its own Olympic-style games at The Corral beginning on Wednesday, June 15. The four day Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) hits Oakdale on June 15 and concludes on Saturday, June 18. This AAU Track and Field Region 22 National Qualifier will showcase talent from the Pacific and Central California Districts in the junior Olympic Games.
