Spring has officially sprung and the weather was perfect for a round of nine hole golf action at Oakdale's Golf and Country Club on Tuesday afternoon, April 8. Oakdale High School golfers welcomed Lathrop to town for a Valley Oak League match. The Mustangs found their stroke as they defeated Lathrop with a score of 248-289.
The Mustangs varsity baseball team is off to a white hot start to the season and it continued to show on Wednesday, April 2 when the team shut out Weston Ranch 11-0 in front of the Oakdale faithful. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 1 but it was postponed to severe weather.
The Mustangs golf team was on the road for a pair of Valley Oak League (VOL) matches this past week. They played Tuesday, April 1 against Manteca and Thursday, April 3 against Sierra, with both matches held at Manteca Park Golf Course. Oakdale walked away with a 242-257 victory against Manteca and just fell short 230-244 against Sierra.
Oakdale High School golf has found success on the course early this season as they racked up two more home victories this week with league wins over Weston Ranch and Kimball.
The Mustangs faced East Union twice this past week. On Tuesday, March 25 the boys packed up and headed to Manteca to face the Lancers in Valley Oak League action, then returned home to face the Lancers again in front of the Mustang faithful on Thursday, March 27. The Mustangs were impressive in the sweep, winning 13-0 and 11-1.
Oakdale High School junior Nico Colunga continues to shine, even on the largest wrestling stage in America, The National High School Coaches Association Juniors Tournament in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Another proud milestone for Oakdale Water Polo was set earlier this month at the Pacific Coast USA Olympic Development Program regional championship tournament in Moraga.
The Mustangs hit the course hard this week, as they competed in the Hilmar Yellowjacket Invitational at Stevinson Ranch Golf Course on Monday, March 17 and packed up their golf bags and headed to Lathrop for a Valley Oak League match on Tuesday, March 18.
The varsity baseball boys were busy this week as they hosted back to back games Tuesday, March 11 and Wednesday, March 12. Oakdale split their two-game home stand as they were victorious Tuesday against Enochs 6-3 but fell to Beyer the next day 10-6.
Three-time U.S. Olympian, Suzy Powell, held a World Athletics Center Phase One Throws Clinic at Oakdale High School on Sunday, March 16.
Five went. One came home a state medalist.
It was a busy week for Oakdale golfers and coaching staff. With three events in four days scheduled it was time to hit the links. On Monday, March 3 the Oakdale High School golf team hosted its inaugural 18-hole Oakdale Cup at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. The tournament consisted of 10 schools in the area with a total of 59 golfers.

Oakdale High School had a strong presence at this year's Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and March 1 inside the Stockton Arena. With nine representatives from Oakdale, numbers and momentum were on their side. After grappling their way through multiple opponents, Oakdale flexed their muscles and advanced five of its wrestlers to the 42nd annual CIF State Championship March 7 and 8 in Bakersfield.
Oakdale High School spring sports were expected to get under way this past week, but Mother Nature had other ideas.
Hard times on the hardwood as the OHS varsity girls have lost three straight games. Oakdale dropped a pair of home games this week to visiting Manteca and East Union this past week.
