In a double dual meet that featured Ripon, East Union and Oakdale on Friday, March 23 the Oakdale boys defeated East Union 116-52 and the girls also defeated East Union 137-32. However, Ripon's teams defeated Oakdale 101-69 and 107-63.

The Lady Mustangs opened their Valley Oak League championship quest with a 5-2 road win over Kimball. In their lone game of the week, Oakdale's varsity girls defeated the Jaguars using the long ball. Grace Green, Brittany Bye and Riley Goodridge all connected on home runs to help power the Lady Mustangs.

The Oakdale Mustangs varsity baseball team scored four runs in the seventh inning to overcome East Union 8-5 on the road. The dramatic come from behind win was the team's Valley Oak League season opener as well as their only game of the week.

Action was fast and furious on Friday, March 23 as Oakdale High School hosted over 20 schools from three different counties for the County Clash IV. The track and field event stretched into the night and was packed with Olympic style events.

In a three-team golf match the Oakdale Mustangs overcame Manteca and Sierra at Manteca Park on Wednesday, March 21. Oakdale not only had the tall task of facing two Valley Oak League teams, but also faced tough conditions in the process. Despite high winds and a soggy course, the Mustangs remained unbeaten in league play as they defeated both Valley Oak League foes to improve to 6-0 on the season.

How much is too much? Recently while watching a video of a well-known professional angler, he mentioned how important the right equipment was in using the bait he was demonstrating. Being a good student, I had my note pad out and wrote down all the model numbers and baits that he was using. After, I went online and searched for the rod and reel that he was using. Chalk one up for Mother Nature. As much as the area needed the rain to fall, it made things difficult for Oakdale High School athletes to compete. Boys tennis, all softball levels and freshman baseball all fell victim to the weather.

The Oakdale Mustang swim program made short work of visiting Weston Ranch this past Friday. Oakdale's varsity girls team defeated the Cougars 109-4 and the varsity boys swam away from Weston Ranch 76-23 at the Oakdale Aquatic Center.

The varsity Oakdale High School Mustangs baseball team continued to battle in non-conference play this past week. Oakdale played two games and went 1-1 in the process. On Tuesday Oakdale went to Turlock to take on Pitman, winning there in a 6-3 final. Thursday afternoon at home, however, the Mustangs fell to visiting Cosumnes Oaks by a score of 4-2.

The Pacific Fishery Management Council has adopted for public review three alternatives for the 2018 salmon seasons off the West Coast of the United States. The Council will select a final alternative at its next meeting in Portland, Oregon April 6-11. The Mustang varsity boys golf team improved to 4-0 in Valley Oak League play this past week. With a 194-257 win over Lathrop, the Mustangs are sitting on top of the league standings. Paced by Max Moore who shot 36 on the day, Oakdale handed Lathrop its first loss of the season.
