After making short work of Weston Ranch this week, the varsity baseball team has now won five straight games. The team started out 0-3 in league play but has since elevated their intensity and focus to get on a little bit of a roll.

As gusty winds kicked up around the playing fields of Oakdale this past week, multiple Mustang teams took the weather in stride. Oakdale's boys golf, boys tennis and boys varsity swim teams all braved the elements and earned victories.
"Just keep fighting" – that was the message from Oakdale varsity baseball head coach Nate Gregory to his ball club before the game began. After dropping three straight Valley Oak League (VOL) games to start the season, the varsity Mustangs have now won three straight to get back into the hunt. This past week Oakdale swept the Lathrop Spartans in a home-and-home series, bringing the Mustangs league record back to 3-3. Oakdale (12-6, 3-3) outscored the Spartans (4-8-1, 1-5) 19-1 in the two game series to springboard the Mustangs to third place in the current VOL standings.
In a showdown of undefeated teams, the Oakdale Lady Mustangs varsity track and field squad expanded their league dual meet winning streak to 89 on Thursday, April 14. In an 87-48 win over visiting Lathrop, Oakdale got great efforts on and off the track. Leading the way in the field competitions were seniors Hannah Chappell and Kai Tanner. With just six games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Oakdale Lady Mustangs varsity soccer team currently sits in sixth place in the Valley Oak League standings. This past week Oakdale (10-6-3, 3-4-1) fell 2-1 to third place Central Catholic (9-2-1, 5-1-1) and tied 1-1 with fifth place Kimball ( 5-5-6, 3-4-1).
In a Valley Oak League (VOL) showdown between two undefeated teams, Oakdale went to East Union on Tuesday, April 12 for the first meeting between the two powerhouses this season. The two teams have combined for the last two CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships and were co-champions in the VOL last season. Tuesday's dramatic rivalry game ended in heartbreaking fashion as Oakdale (11-1, 5-1) fell to East Union (15-0, 7-0) by a final score of 5-3 on a three run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
It took a little longer than I had originally planned but I finally was able to fish Lake Pardee last weekend. The trip was a last minute decision so I ended up making the trip by myself. Surprisingly, it rained the whole time I was driving to the lake and stopped raining as soon as I arrived. I expected the boat ramp to be busy but there was not a boat in site when I got there. Literally running away from the rest of the Valley Oak League teams for the 11th straight season, the Oakdale varsity girls track and field team dominated East Union 105-25 for their 83rd consecutive dual meet victory. Oakdale went to East Union on Thursday, April 7 along with the boys varsity team, the Mustang boys winning 94-31. The junior varsity boys tied 68-68 and the junior varsity girls took a tough loss, 82-26.
After being blanked by Manteca with identical 9-0 scores on both Tuesday and Wednesday, the Mustang boys tennis team answered with a 7-2 road win over Sierra. Taking four of six singles matches and sweeping Sierra in doubles, the Mustang boys remain in playoff contention.
