Pinning Down History

Oakdale High's wrestling program kept the longest active streak of Sac-Joaquin Section Team Dual titles alive with consecutive victories to snare the Division IV banner on Saturday at Lincoln High in Stockton. Mustang grapplers won 25 of 28 total matches across the day to collect their fourth straight such honor and fifth in the past six seasons. The team will host the Valley Oak League Individual Championships on Saturday. With over 400 wrestlers packed into multiple brackets for all 14 weight classes, the 2012 Lloyd C. Engel Tournament in Escalon earlier this month proved to be one of the toughest local tournaments this season. Oakdale junior Hondo Arpoika made the most of his trip to Escalon with a first place title in the 'A' bracket at 195 pounds.

Mustangs Muscle Their Way To Section Championship

Oakdale wrestlers made their presence felt at Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom on Saturday, Feb. 22 as they claimed the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV Championship. The Mustangs, much like they have all season, got out to a quick and dominant start and never looked back in having the most individual champions and nailing down the blue banner.

Senior Night Success For Lady Mustangs

It was a rough season for head basketball coach Justin Schwitters and the varsity Oakdale Lady Mustangs. In what got off to a promising start, winning five of their first six and going 11-5 throughout the first 16 games, including winning two Valley Oak League games (0-23 previously since 2012), things took a turn for the worse and the team members found themselves on a 10-game skid heading into Tuesday's season finale on Feb. 18. During the skid, Oakdale lost three of those games by four points or less, staying competitive but unable to nail down the wins.

On Saturday, Feb. 15 all eight high schools clashed for the Valley Oak League wrestling championship in Sonora. Oakdale, much like they have over the past seven years, dominated and claimed the title once again for an eighth consecutive year.

Valentine’s Day Heartbreak For Varsity Mustangs

Since beating Weston Ranch on Feb. 5, the varsity basketball boys have fallen on hard times, suffering back to back road losses to Kimball (71-49) and Lathrop (65-34). The boys looked to bounce back on Valentine's Day, Friday night, when their rivals the Sonora Wildcats came to town for Oakdale's Winter Homecoming.

D-IV Champions - Oakdale Wrestlers Power Their Way To Victory At Section Duals

The weather may have been wet and wild outside the gym at this year's Section Dual Tournament, hosted at Lincoln High School of Stockton, but the Oakdale Mustang wrestling team shined inside of it. With over 35 schools from Northern California showing up, the Oakdale Mustangs put on a clinic and took care of business to claim a Section blue banner on Feb. 8.

Varsity Boys Avoid Sweep By Weston Ranch

For the Oakdale Mustang boys basketball program, Wednesday night was full of mixed emotions. The freshman boys played physical but fell short, 44-41, to visiting Weston Ranch to kick off the trio of contests on Feb. 5. That was followed up by a lackluster performance from the Junior Varsity team, the squad losing 60-30. However, the night was salvaged with a 61-50 victory put up by the varsity boys.

Wednesday night, Oakdale wrestlers completed a perfect campaign, the squads finished the Valley Oak League schedule with a win over Sonora in both JV and Varsity. Both teams finished 7-0 and claimed the VOL Championship.
