Fishing Report

I'm always surprised at how the seasons change. To someone who spends their days outside, I'm sure they've noticed a change in our weather indicating that fall was not too far away. To most of us, we rely on our calendars for this information and think of September as being the beginning of fall. Not me; daylight hours are usually my indicator of seasonal change. The less daylight hours, the cooler the nights become, resulting in cooler water temperatures which alarms the fish to start preparing for the winter months. As far as our local fishing, the ...

Fishing Report

One of my first bait casting reels cost me less than $50 back in the early '80s. As time went on, the price of bait casting reels continued to rise. I'm guessing it was in the early '90s when the prices of a mid- to high-quality bait casting reel had a price tag of $100. Today, a reel of the same quality, sells for $200. Like a lot of you, it's frustrating to have to pay such high prices for decent fishing equipment. Not anymore, there are some really good resources online that can be used to find ...

Fishing Report

I'm not much of a planner, so when I decided to take my family out fishing halfway through the day, I accepted that fishing was secondary to just getting out on the water. Once on the water two things were evident, the fish were going to be tough to catch, and that there was more than one reason why we were the only boat on the lake at the time. I was surprised that we were able to fish for a solid three hours before I decided to call it quits and let the kids go swimming at the ...

NHRA Thunders Into The Wine Country Of Sonoma

The 30th annual NHRA Toyota Sonoma Nationals featured several surprises. The biggest was Robert Hight in Funny Car. Driving his "California Highway Patrol" tribute Chevy Camaro, Hight set the drag racing world on its ears in the second round of qualifying Friday night. He uncorked an amazing 3.807 second run at 339.87 mph, resetting the NHRA speed record with the fastest run ever done in either Top Fuel or Funny Car, even when these cars actually ran a quarter-mile distance (this has been shortened to 1000 feet for safety, since 2008). This performance would stand as the #1 ...
