NASCAR, Indy Car Racing Series Ready To Go Green

For 2017, NASCAR has several changes in the news. First, and foremost, it is no longer the "Sprint Cup" series. It is now the "Monster Energy NASCAR Cup" series. Annual Fishing Tournament Offered At Oak Grove Park

San Joaquin County Parks and Delta Fly Fishers are presenting the Bob McMillen Memorial Fishing Tournament, set for Saturday, March 4 at Oak Grove Regional Park. The park is on West Eight Mile Road in Stockton.

Lady Mustangs Close Out Sloppy Winter Soccer Season

Tuesday, Feb. 14 marked the season finale for the Oakdale varsity girls soccer team. Oakdale (4-17, 2-12) fell to Central Catholic (13-5-2, 10-3-1) 1-0 on the road to close out the campaign.

Varsity Soccer Boys Rally To Beat Central Catholic

Three weeks ago the Oakdale Mustangs varsity boys playoff chances seemed dim. They were struggling and battling for a top four spot in the Valley Oak League (VOL). Catching fire late, the team then won five of their last six games and finished second in the VOL.

Boys Basketball Season Closes With Road Loss

The 2016-2017 boys basketball season came to a close on Wednesday, Feb. 15 following a 62-45 road loss to first place Manteca. Oakdale (4-24, 1-13) battled in the first quarter with the unbeaten and league champion Buffaloes (22-5, 14-0) to a 17-14 deficit. The Mustangs trailed 28-21 at the half and could not regroup in the second half as the team was outscored 34-24 over the final 16 minutes.

Mustang Wrestlers Pin Down Section D-III Championship

Oakdale wrestlers continue to shine this postseason. This past weekend the boys headed to compete in the 2017 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D-III Divisionals at Vista del Lago High School. The Mustangs produced seven first place finishers, along with two second and two third place finishers to win the tournament.

Spring Training Underway For Multiple Mustang Squads

The groundhog may have seen his shadow earlier this month, but that won't stop Oakdale High School from prepping for the spring. This past week, Oakdale's spring sports squads began practicing in preparation for their upcoming seasons. Baseball, softball, track and field, boy's tennis, swimming and boy's golf will all soon be back in action on campus.

Loss To VOL Champ Manteca Closes Lady Hoops Season

The 2016-2017 girls basketball season came to a close on Tuesday night, Feb. 14 for Oakdale. On a night where three seniors were honored for their contributions and career with the team, Oakdale (13-14, 3-11) fell to first place Manteca (16-10, 13-1) by a final score of 63-46.

Wrestling Mustangs Win 11th Straight VOL Title

For over a decade, the Oakdale Mustangs have dominated the Valley Oak League wrestling mats. On Saturday, Feb. 11 the boys went to Central Catholic High School for the annual Valley Oak League Championship tournament and continued that dominance.

Lady Mustangs Drop Two Games In Varsity Action

A rough week for the Oakdale Lady Mustangs (13-13, 3-10) varsity basketball team, as the girls dropped both of their Valley Oak League games. On Tuesday evening the girls fell to Kimball (20-6, 11-2) at home 51-38 and then took a 63-52 road loss at Central Catholic (17-9, 8-5) on Thursday night.

Senior Night Doesn’t Bring Win For Mustang Boy Hoops

Senior Night 2017 began on a high note for the eight senior varsity Mustang basketball boys, as they were honored prior to tip-off. However, by the end of the evening, the team on the court was not celebrating as Oakdale fell 83-42 to visiting Central Catholic (19-7, 10-3) on Friday night. Oakdale kept it close in the first half but were outscored 54-22 over the third and fourth quarters, sending the Mustangs to their fifth straight league loss. Earlier in the week the boys fell to Lathrop (15-11, 7-6) on the road by a final of 66-36.

Fishing Report

The other day while searching through YouTube videos, I came across a video titled "Angry Fisherman!" Curious to see more, I clicked on the video and wasn't all that entertained until I clicked on some of the other videos that were showing up. Apparently, it's become a thing to record angry home owners, police, and other fishermen arguing over who owns the water. Admittedly, I've fished in and been kicked out of many golf course ponds and private lakes while growing up. After all, those were the best places to catch fish in my neighborhood. Just about ...

Varsity Soccer Girls Victorious On Senior Day

Tuesday night was a celebratory evening for the varsity girls soccer team. Oakdale (4-16, 2-11) defeated visiting Weston Ranch (1-15-1, 0-12-0) by a final of 2-0. Prior to the game, coaches, parents, and fans celebrated the five seniors for their dedication and achievements in the program. Seniors Isabella Cobarruvias, Amelia Hernandez, Alyssa Rowe, Makenzie Perez and Megan Miller were all honored at midfield of the OHS Corral. Presented with flowers, balloons and candy, the girls took in their final pregame ceremony at home.
