Oakdale High's junior varsity girls basketball team improved to 5-3 in the Valley Oak League with an 18-point rout of visiting Kimball on Friday, but varsity and freshman girls couldn't match the same performance during a 1-2 collective finish against the Jaguars.

Oakdale High's varsity boys basketball team saw its Friday, Jan. 20 contest with Sonora postponed due to a power outage up the hill with the game now set for Saturday. And if the Mustangs' previous four Valley Oak League contests have taught us anything, it's to expect a battle.
With over 400 wrestlers packed into multiple brackets for all 14 weight classes, the 2012 Lloyd C. Engel Tournament in Escalon earlier this month proved to be one of the toughest local tournaments this season. Oakdale junior Hondo Arpoika made the most of his trip to Escalon with a first place title in the 'A' bracket at 195 pounds.

The departure of longtime varsity standout Jake Martinez was a big blow to the Oakdale High School boys basketball program. But while players stepped in to fill his role in the post, Oakdale senior Vince Fauria blossomed into a key role in Oakdale's frontcourt.
Oakdale High's varsity boys basketball team played to an exciting 40-39 loss to East Union after Winter Homecoming festivities on Jan. 13. The action capped an evening that included freshman and junior varsity contests and included a crowd-rousing homecoming selection narrated by Oakdale announcer Pete Simoncini. Friday night football is back at The Corral as the Mustangs hosted longtime rivals, the Sonora Wildcats in the 2014 season opener. Even though Sonora is no longer in the Valley Oak League, the rivalry between the two schools went on for 91 years in league play and still holds up as a big rivalry in California.
