Oakdale High's varsity boys basketball team played to an exciting 40-39 loss to East Union after Winter Homecoming festivities on Jan. 13. The action capped an evening that included freshman and junior varsity contests and included a crowd-rousing homecoming selection narrated by Oakdale announcer Pete Simoncini. Oakdale High School varsity softball teammates Lauren Sanders and Kindra Hackbarth were named to the Calhisports.com All-State Medium/Small School Softball Team for 2014. Sanders, who graduated from OHS in May and will continue to play softball for San Diego State, was named to the first team for her ability behind the dish as she was named to the top five catchers list. It's never too early for spring training for Oakdale High School baseball. With well over 40 signups of incoming freshman taking part in a summer clinic to help prepare themselves for tryouts next spring. Eight coaches, including freshman baseball Coach Chris Jackson, junior varsity Coach Scot Gehl and Varsity Coach Nate Gregory on hand to help them along the way.
A pair of Master's Meet champions from Oakdale was crowned at Elk Grove High School, as Kyle Peterson and Hannah Chappell brought home the honors from the 2014 CIF Sac-Joaquin Track and Field Masters Meet. Competition was held on May 29 and May 30.
2014 was a year of mixed emotions for the Oakdale High School baseball teams. The year featured first year varsity coach Nathan Gregory, who managed the team to the CIF Sections playoffs, but fell in the first round. The varsity team also has seen eight of its seniors graduate, going to college this fall and leaving behind some holes to fill.
