Surprise Win In Elk Grove

Only six high school wrestling teams attended the 2011 John Zhender Duals at Elk Grove High on Dec. 17, but they were six very good teams and Oakdale was the cream of the crop. Oakdale went 5-0 across a full day of action against five of the best teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section and the North Coast Section.

Varsity Lady Mustangs Sneak Past Downey

A last-moment three-pointer gave Downey High's varsity girls basketball team brief hope for a late comeback, but Oakdale maintained the final possession for a 40-37 victory over the host Knights on Friday. The win improved Oakdale to 3-4 in non-league action with a solid 255-280 scoring differential between opponents. The games have been a nice way to open the year after blowout losses of 20 or more points in five of Oakdale's last games of the 2010-11 season.

Oakdale Volleyball Duo Ink Letters Of Intent

Oakdale High seniors McKenzie Willet and Justina Keith signed their names to written commitments on Dec. 11 to attend the University of California, Merced on partial volleyball scholarships. Both will join the seven-year-old university for its second ever National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics season in 2012.

One second Oakdale High boys water polo coaches Alan Stender and David Earle were inconspicuously talking with Mustang parents, and the next they were scrambling to ditch wallets and cell phones as a pack of grinning athletes wrestled them from their poolside stances. Suddenly, both fully clothed coaches were dumped into the pool at the Oakdale Aquatic Center.

Athlete of the Week - Mabel Wong

Oakdale High's freshman standout Mabel Wong had already dominated the Valley Oak League field throughout the prep golf season, but saved her best performance for the end of conference play. Wong shot a 74 to earn medalist honors at the Brookside Country Club in Stockton and best the next closest golfer by nine strokes. That finale helped her claim a landslide VOL MVP in her first high school campaign.

OHS Baseball Splits Two Wild Games With Manteca

The varsity Oakdale Mustangs opened the 2015 Valley Oak League season playing a home and home stand with the Manteca Buffaloes this past week. On Wednesday, March 18 the boys escaped with a wild 21-15 road win. Down 9-3 after three innings, Oakdale exploded with nine runs in the top half of the fourth and never looked back. Nolen Legan powered the Mustangs with his four hit, five RBI day. The Mustangs outscored the Buffaloes 18-6 in the final four innings of play.

Oak Valley Youth Softball Association (OVYSA) staged a clinic at Oakdale High School on Saturday, March 14 for their upcoming season. OVYSA begins their season on Saturday, March 21 at Oakdale's Kerr Park located at 840 N. Stearns Road. Opening ceremony is set for 9 a.m.

Colunga Nails Down Third Place At State

Seven Oakdale Mustangs packed their bags and headed to Bakersfield for the 43rd annual CIF State Meet on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7. OHS seniors Logan Eaton, Nico Colunga, Max Stevens and Frankie Trent, along with junior Trevor Williams, sophomore Abel Garcia and freshman Colbey Harlan all battled their way to Rabobank Arena. Each of them has battled it out since their first match of the season in November, through the Masters Meet in Stockton to get to this point, the sought-after State Meet competition.

Varsity Baseball Falls In Non-League Game

The Mustang varsity baseball boys took the field on Saturday, March 7 when they hosted Cosumnes Oaks. Originally scheduled to be a double header, the teams played a single game where Cosumnes Oaks walked out victorious, 4-1.

Seven Wrestlers Qualify For State Meet

Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 and 28 was a pivotal stop for high school wrestlers on their journey to reach the California State Championship. Stockton Arena was host site for the two day wrestle fest, known as the 2015 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet.

Oakdale Wrestlers Claim Divisional Championships

To say this has been a dominant season for the OHS varsity wrestling team would be an understatement. This season the team claimed its ninth consecutive Valley Oak League title, the eighth consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section title and the momentum has carried into the Sac-Joaquin Division III Divisionals.

Junior Varsity Girls Take VOL Title

The future appears bright for OHS girls' basketball, as the 2014-2015 junior varsity girls wrapped up the season undefeated with a perfect 14-0 Valley Oak League record. Led by second year head coach Julie Ford, the team bought into her coaching philosophy and put it to work on the court, showing up every day and practicing and playing hard and playing for each other. In the 14 league games, Oakdale outscored their opponents 666-447, an average of nearly a 32-point margin of victory over the course of the season. If the term "Dynasty" can be used after three titles, should we consider the Oakdale High School Mustangs varsity wrestling team a "Tri-Dynasty"? Wednesday night Jan. 28 the Mustangs hosted undefeated Central Catholic in a clash of unbeatens to decide the 2015 Valley Oak League championship. The Mustangs overcame a slow start to the evening to run wild on the Raiders to win 51-15 to claim their ninth consecutive VOL championship.
