Mixed Results For Mustang JV, Frosh Football

Varsity Volleyball Girls Split Non-League Contests

Two games, two different outcomes for the OHS varsity volleyball team were featured on the court this past week. On Tuesday, Sept. 5 Oakdale defeated Escalon 3-2 in five sets but fell to Tracy on Thursday night at home 3-1 in non-conference action.

Mustangs Beat The Heat, Gauchos On Gridiron

Oakdale's home opener Friday night against El Capitan was a hot ticket. This was the first time Oakdale stepped foot on the new look field at The Corral, and it was the first time fans got to welcome back their state championship team. With temperatures reaching triple digits, the game was pushed back to 8 p.m. and by the time stretching was over and the National Anthem was sung, it was closer to 8:40 p.m.

JV, Freshman Football Squads Dismiss El Capitan

Thursday night the freshman Oakdale Ponies saddled up and headed to Merced to face El Capitan under the lights. Oakdale was not fazed by the road trip and dominated the home team 56-6. Picking up where he left off against Sonora, Zeke Saffar rumbled his way to another big game. The young tailback ripped off four touchdowns and nearly 200 yards as he scored from 75, 30, 25 and 10 yards out.

Lady Golfers Sink East Union

For nearly a decade, the East Union Lancers golf team dominated the Valley Oak League. However, for the second straight season, Oakdale's Lady Mustangs defeated the Lancers on the golf course. On Thursday afternoon, Aug. 31 Oakdale defeated East Union 215-265. This was Oakdale's Valley Oak League season opener, due to their regular season opener against Kimball having been rescheduled for Sept. 18.
