Lady Mustangs Fourth In Ripon Christian Tourney

A valiant fourth-quarter comeback nearly closed the gap, but Oakdale High's varsity girls basketball team (4-8) slipped to a 41-36 defeat to talented Hilmar (11-2) in the third-place game of the Ripon Christian Tournament on Dec. 29. Oakdale beat Delhi in the tourney opener, but dropped their next two contests to Hughson and Hilmar. The Lady Mustangs were forced to finish tournament action without starting point guard Blanca Lara, who spent her New Year's holiday in Mexico. Victory Leads Oakdale To Rotary Tourney Tip-Off

A 63-48 victory over Pacheco on Dec. 21 put a nice polish on Oakdale High's varsity basketball preseason, but today's start to the 42nd Annual Oakdale Rotary Classic (Dec. 28) represents the last test drive before conference play.

Athlete of the Week - Zack Fallentine

Oakdale High's junior heavyweight on the varsity wrestling team, Zack Fallentine, exploded onto the prep wrestling scene with a 5-2 win over Buhach Colony's Michael Escobar to claim first place honors in the 36th Annual James Riddle Classic earlier this month at OHS.

Surprise Win In Elk Grove

Only six high school wrestling teams attended the 2011 John Zhender Duals at Elk Grove High on Dec. 17, but they were six very good teams and Oakdale was the cream of the crop. Oakdale went 5-0 across a full day of action against five of the best teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section and the North Coast Section.

Varsity Lady Mustangs Sneak Past Downey

A last-moment three-pointer gave Downey High's varsity girls basketball team brief hope for a late comeback, but Oakdale maintained the final possession for a 40-37 victory over the host Knights on Friday. The win improved Oakdale to 3-4 in non-league action with a solid 255-280 scoring differential between opponents. The games have been a nice way to open the year after blowout losses of 20 or more points in five of Oakdale's last games of the 2010-11 season.

Oakdale Volleyball Duo Ink Letters Of Intent

Oakdale High seniors McKenzie Willet and Justina Keith signed their names to written commitments on Dec. 11 to attend the University of California, Merced on partial volleyball scholarships. Both will join the seven-year-old university for its second ever National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics season in 2012.

Hackbarth, Sanders Named To All State Team

Oakdale High School varsity softball teammates Lauren Sanders and Kindra Hackbarth were named to the Calhisports.com All-State Medium/Small School Softball Team for 2014. Sanders, who graduated from OHS in May and will continue to play softball for San Diego State, was named to the first team for her ability behind the dish as she was named to the top five catchers list. Hackbarth was named to the Second Team for both her glove and cannon of an arm in the outfield. Hackbarth will be entering her junior year, was one of only two sophomores to make the list ...

Boys of Summer

It's never too early for spring training for Oakdale High School baseball. With well over 40 signups of incoming freshman taking part in a summer clinic to help prepare themselves for tryouts next spring. Eight coaches, including freshman baseball Coach Chris Jackson, junior varsity Coach Scot Gehl and Varsity Coach Nate Gregory on hand to help them along the way.

Peterson, Chappell Champions - OHS Athletes Shine At CIF Masters

A pair of Master's Meet champions from Oakdale was crowned at Elk Grove High School, as Kyle Peterson and Hannah Chappell brought home the honors from the 2014 CIF Sac-Joaquin Track and Field Masters Meet. Competition was held on May 29 and May 30.

OHS Baseball Honors Presented

2014 was a year of mixed emotions for the Oakdale High School baseball teams. The year featured first year varsity coach Nathan Gregory, who managed the team to the CIF Sections playoffs, but fell in the first round. The varsity team also has seen eight of its seniors graduate, going to college this fall and leaving behind some holes to fill.

Section Success - Record Setting Day For Mustang Track, Field

California State University of Stanislaus in Turlock was the host of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Track and Field Division IV and V trials and finals. The meet was staged over two days beginning Tuesday, May 20 with trials in multiple events and wrapping up with finals on Thursday, May 22.

Softball Program Honors Presented For Championship Campaign

In a special gathering on Monday, May 12 the softball community honored both the Oakdale High School Junior Varsity and Varsity teams for their accomplishments this season. The event took place at the Bianchi Center in Oakdale. With four awards given our for each program, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved player of the Year that were voted by the team, the coaches also gave out their Coaches Award as well.
