Saturday Run In Stockton

The Inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 5k and 10k Walk/Run is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, in downtown Stockton. This new Walk/Run gives participants the choice of a 10k Run or 5k Run/Walk, on two extremely flat and fast courses. Registration and day of event entry fees, for both races, are $50 for adults, 18 and over and $25 for youth, 17 and under. OBSA Sign-Ups

Oakdale Baseball Softball Association (OBSA) is currently accepting sign-ups for the upcoming 2018 season. The recreational league is for youths, ages 4-15 years old. Competitive team play opportunities at the end of the recreation season will be offered as well. Registration can be filled out online on their website www.Oakdalebsa.com or in person. OBSA offers T-Ball to fast pitch.

Varsity Lady Mustang Soccer Falls In Second Half

The Oakdale Lady Mustangs returned to soccer action on Thursday night, Jan. 4. In their first game since Dec. 21, Oakdale traveled to Manteca to take on Sierra. Oakdale gave up five second half goals in the 7-1 road loss to the Timberwolves.

Boys Soccer Silences Wolves In Varsity Road Victory

In their lone game of the week, the Oakdale Mustangs shut out the Sierra Timberwolves 3-0 in varsity boys soccer action. The Valley Oak League (VOL) showdown took place Wednesday, Jan. 3 at Sierra High School in Manteca. This was the first game back from the winter break and the Mustangs looked fierce. Entering the game, Oakdale was 0-2 in league play, while Sierra was 2-0.

Learn Golf, Life Skills Through First Tee Program

The First Tee of Central Valley has announced its 2018 Program Schedule. Clinics offering Life Skill and golf instruction for youth ages 6-17 are set to begin on Monday, March 19 at eight golf facilities in four counties. Participating locations include Modesto Municipal, St. Stanislaus, River Oaks (Ceres), Rancho Del Rey (Atwater), Merced Country Club, Phoenix Lake (Sonora) as well as Dryden Park and Creekside. Lessons will focus on the fundamentals of golf as well as The First Tee Healthy Habits and Nine Core Values.

Varsity Mustang Hoopsters Drop Pair Of VOL Games

The 2017-2018 Oakdale boys basketball league season is off to a shaky start for the varsity team. Oakdale (5-9, 0-2) began Valley Oak League play on the road against Kimball (8-7, 1-1) on Wednesday, Jan. 3 with a 66-53 loss and followed up with a 74-38 home loss to Weston Ranch (10-3, 2-0) on Friday, Jan. 5.

Fishing Report

It's been a few years since I've fished team tournaments. This year I'll be fishing a circuit that starts this month and ends in October. In preparing for the upcoming season, I've had to update some of my cold weather clothing. The one thing I don't want to be is cold. Our first two tournaments are at Lake Oroville and Lake Shasta. Wrestlers Take Down Clovis

Friday, Dec. 29 Oakdale's wrestling team traveled to Clovis High School to take on Clovis and Sultana in duals action. Entering the day Oakdale was ranked sixth in the state and Clovis ranked seventh. The much anticipated dual between the two powerhouse programs did not disappoint.

Varsity Mustang Boys Take Third In Rotary Classic

For nearly five decades Oakdale has hosted the annual boys basketball holiday tournament known as the Oakdale Rotary Classic. In its 48th season Oakdale hosted eight teams over three days that saw plenty of varsity basketball action. Argonaut, Thomas Downey, Grace Davis, Hughson, Los Banos, Patterson, Pitman and Ripon Christian all came to Oakdale from Dec. 27 through Dec. 29 for the annual extravaganza.

Junior Varsity Boys Win Consolation Bracket

The 48th annual Oakdale Rotary Classic saw the Oakdale junior varsity boys win the consolation side of the hoops bracket on Friday, Dec. 29 when they knocked off Downey 63-50. Oakdale began the tournament with a loss to Grace Davis but regrouped and won two straight games to close out the tournament on a high note on their home court. Seven teams came to town for the near half century tradition; Argonaut, Thomas Downey, Grace Davis, Patterson, Hughson, Los Banos, Pitman and Ripon Christian.

Girls Hoops Win Lone Game This Week

The Oakdale varsity girls basketball team played one game this past week and came out on top. On Friday, Dec. 22 the team traveled to Ceres to take on the Central Valley Hawks, where Oakdale won 57-31 in the road contest.

Heartbreaking Loss For Frosh Boys In Tournament

If games were 31 minutes and 58 seconds long instead of 32 minutes; the Oakdale freshman boys basketball team would have defeated the Central Catholic Raiders on Thursday afternoon. On the final day of the 22nd Grace Davis Holiday Tournament, Oakdale and Central Catholic squared off where the winner would finish the tournament in third place. This was the second consecutive year that Oakdale would be in the third place game. However, unlike last season, Oakdale did not finish third as they fell 48-47 to the Raiders.
