It's very early in the Oakdale Mustangs varsity baseball season; in fact the 2016 Valley Oak League season is only two games old. Oakdale opened the VOL campaign with a home and away series with Manteca that began with a 5-4 road loss on Tuesday, March 22. A popular athletic/epicurean event returns to downtown Stockton, on the morning of Sunday, April 10. The new Cali 10 gives participants the choice of a 10k Run or 5k Run/Walk, on extremely flat and fast courses, featuring lots of visibility for the runners of the field, ahead and behind them. The courses' sights include the picturesque downtown of Stockton at Decarli Plaza, Weber Point, and McLeod Lake.
The Corral looked more like an Olympic venue on Friday, March 18 when over 20 schools showed up for the fourth annual County Clash at Oakdale High School. The Mustang varsity girls placed third overall with a total of 80 team points, 15 behind first place Pitman. Oakdale's boys team tied for tenth with 31 points.
Oakdale's T.L. Davis Sports Complex was full of nearly 2,000 baseball and softball supporters for the inaugural Oakdale Baseball Softball Association (OBSA) Opening Day ceremonies on Saturday, March 19.
In their only match of the week the Oakdale varsity Lady Mustangs dismissed visiting Franklin 7-1 on the soccer field. Oakdale used a big offensive first half to pull away from the Yellowjackets. Oakdale (7-2-2) scored five first half goals in the contest.
Wind has to be one of my least favorite conditions to fish in. It's the one environmental factor that often eliminates over half of my tackle box before I even get on the water. Thursday, April 7 boys youth basketball tryouts will be held at Oakdale High School's main gym. Oakdale youngsters in fifth and sixth grades are invited to try out for the AAU team. The Oakdale Mustang tennis team remains in the playoff hunt following their 6-3 win over visiting Weston Ranch. Oakdale's match took place under the sun on Friday, March 18 at OHS where the team's doubles came through in the clutch, winning all three matches to help power Oakdale to victory.
In their only game of the week, the Oakdale Lady Mustangs softball squad looked in midseason form in their league opener. Oakdale welcomed Kimball to town on Thursday, March 17 and host Oakdale dominated the Lady Jaguars 15-0 in Valley Oak League (VOL) action.
The annual Mark Dickens Invitational "Hustle for the Future" varsity baseball tournament is scheduled to return on Monday, March 28 and conclude Wednesday, March 30 on the campus of Oakdale High School.
