Varsity Girls Win Two On Hoops Hardwood

Second year head coach Julie Ford has her girls basketball team off to a sizzling start in the early going. The varsity Lady Mustangs improved to 6-1 following a pair of home wins this past week. On Thursday night the girls dismissed visiting Ripon Christian 41-28 and 24 hours later they demolished Johansen 56-15 to complete their week. The Mustangs opened the first quarter on a 7-0 advantage over Ripon Christian as Sarah Bohrer connected on a corner three with 4:28 left in the opening quarter. Mustangs Win And Tie To Start VOL Campaign

The Valley Oak League soccer season has begun and for the varsity Mustang boys, the season has started with both ups and downs. On Monday, Dec. 12 the boys won the season opener 3-0 over the Manteca Buffaloes. Two days later, the boys tied with East Union, 1-1.

Wrestling Mustangs Take Fifth At Zinkin Classic

The Oakdale varsity wrestling team made the trip to Buchanan High School for a two-day tournament that began on Friday, Dec. 16 and wrapped up on Saturday afternoon. Oakdale, coming off their hot performance at the 41st annual James Riddle, hit a speed bump at the Zinkin Classic as the team placed fifth overall in the tough competition. Oakdale scored a combined 127 team points.

Soggy Conditions For Soccer Girls

The transition from spring to winter has not been kind to the Oakdale Lady Mustangs varsity soccer team thus far. The girls lost their league opener 6-0 to Manteca and Mother Nature defeated them with her furious rainstorm late in the week, forcing their second league game to be rescheduled against East Union. No date has been announced for the makeup date.

Oakdale Soccer Boys Drop Two; Girls Win

Coming off their big week where the team took first place in the Pitman Tournament, the Oakdale varsity boys soccer team dropped two of three games this past week. Oakdale defeated visiting Franklin on Tuesday night 3-2 but stumbled in their other two games. The Mustangs lost 1-0 to Central Valley and 2-1 to Livingston.

Nine Wrestlers Grapple Way To Invitational Medals

In the 41st annual James Riddle Invitational, Oakdale dominated the home tournament. Eight varsity wrestlers captured first place in their respective weight classes. Dustin Chavez, Jake Abeyta, Cody Williams, Ricky Torres, Gabe Martinez, Abel Garcia, Colbey Harlan and Luis Ayala all earned first place honors in the prestigious tournament. There were 25 teams from around the state that came to Oakdale High School on Saturday, Dec. 10 and enjoyed premier high school wrestling. Oakdale took first place as a team with a total of 231 points.

Varsity, JV Basketball Girls Win Road Games

The varsity girls basketball team is off to a nice start with their latest win coming on Tuesday, Dec. 6 in their lone game of the week. Oakdale knocked off Riverbank 58-28 for their fourth straight win to start the season. Leading the way for Oakdale were Sara Bohrer and Zoe Gillen who scored 14 points each. Oakdale had four players in double digits as Maddy Brewer scored 11 and Grace Higle put in 10 for the Lady Mustangs. Krick’s Pick-Six Makes Difference For Mustangs

Fans flocked to The Corral for the final time in the 2016 season with umbrellas in hand to witness the CIF Northern California Division III-A Regional Bowl game between Oakdale and Sutter on Saturday night, Dec. 10. The winner would earn the right to go on to the CIF III-A State Championship game in La Jolla this coming Saturday evening. For the first 36 minutes of action, that team looked like Sutter. Mustangs Corral Blue Banner In Win Over Falcons

After the way the season started for Oakdale, a CIF Section Championship seemed a bit of a stretch. However, veteran Head Coach Trent Merzon, his staff, the players and community never lost sight of the goal, or the faith to achieve it. Girls Hoops Program Starts Season Strong

Three games, three wins for the Oakdale varsity girls basketball team. On Tuesday, Nov. 29 the girls won their home game against Grace Davis 40-39. Leading the way was Sarah Bohrer with 11 points. Also scoring double digits was Zoe Gillen, who scored 10 points. Senior Maddy Brewer added nine points. The following night, Oakdale defeated Tokay 63-18. Gillen scored a game high 20 points in the home win. Grace Higle added 15 points for the Lady Mustangs while Brewer scored nine.
