Oakdale Hosts WSRRA Event

On Saturday, July 22, the Oakdale Saddle Club celebrated the National Day of the Cowboy by hosting its' annual Ranch Rodeo. Local cowboys and cowgirls, as well as several from other counties came to compete in events that simulate what a full-time and day-working cowboy does. This was a Western States Ranch Rodeo Association (WSRRA) sanctioned event. Open and women's divisions competed in sort, rope and doctor, calf-branding, team roping and trailer load and tie. DeAnda Falls In Controversial Fight

Angel "The Dream" DeAnda headlined the second episode in Dana White's Tuesday Night Contenders online show in Las Vegas. DeAnda took on Daniel Spohn in the main event of the evening on July, 18 in front of Dana White with a contract for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) online. "The people at the UFC were great to me. They definitely take care of their fighters. They had a great food package available for me upon arrival and made me feel like home," the 185-pound DeAnda said.

Second Annual Stampede Meet and Greet Scores Big

Families, coaches, players and cheerleaders gathered at Kerr Park this past weekend for the second annual Stampede Meet and Greet. Nearly 150 people braved the triple digit weather but were cooled off by sno-cones and other treats that were offered at the event.

Oakdale MMA Offers Group Classes

School is just around the corner and for some it can be a scary place. Bullying is more common and at a new level with cyber bullying. Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts Academy offers group courses in child bullying prevention. Professor Tom Theofanopoulos heads the group session seminar that features how to handle youth bullying.

Perez Heading To Huntsville For College Soccer

The calendar year of 2016 may not have been very memorable for the injured Makenzie Perez, but 2017 has so far been unforgettable for the soccer standout. Perez graduated from Oakdale High School in late May and on July 13 she officially signed with the University of Alabama-Huntsville to play goalkeeper for the Chargers. The signing took place at Bonsu Elite Athletics in Ceres, where she has been training.

All Pro Wrestling Returns To Stockton

For over 20 years, All Pro Wrestling has entertained fans all over the Bay Area. On Friday, Aug. 18 All Pro Wrestling makes its way into the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium. Stampede Social Saturday

Football season is on the horizon and Oakdale is getting ready for it. This weekend, the Oakdale Stampede Youth Football and Cheer will be hosting their second annual Meet and Greet at Kerr Park. Last year the organization's inaugural event was a huge success and they hope to duplicate the response this year. On Saturday, July 22 the teams at all levels will gather from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an afternoon of BBQ, games, raffle drawings and socializing.

Cadwell Tapped Youth Director For International Finals Rodeo

The International Finals Youth Rodeo selected six competitors to serve as youth directors for the 2018 event. The chosen individuals were announced during the 2017 IFYR, which kicked off July 9 and concluded the evening of July 14 at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center, 1700 W. Independence, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. The IFYR is the richest youth rodeo in the world, with more than $250,000 in prize money, championship saddles and buckles for contestants to pursue.

Gators Welcome Teams To Oakdale Aquatic Center

In their first home meet of the summer, the Oakdale Gators youth swimmers hit the pool for a multi-team recreational meet. On Saturday, July 8 Turlock, Modesto, Lodi and Tracy visited the Oakdale High School Aquatic Center for the day of swimming. There were several events throughout the day but no official points were kept. Mutton Busting Thrills

Oakdale is the Cowboy Capital of the World, and the future of the rodeo circuit begins at a young age. For those who dream of being in the rodeo arena, they often start off competing in Mutton Busting. Mutton Busting is for three- to seven-year-olds who ride sheep and try to hang on for six seconds. This event is similar to bull riding or saddle bronc as the object is to hang on until the whistle sounds.
