For the first time in Oakdale High School history, the cross country program had a representative compete in the CIF State Cross Country Championships. What made this feat even more impressive was that a freshman was the one to make the historic run. Freshman Karina Prado competed on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Woodward Park in Fresno against 204 of the best long distance runners in the entire state.

Fishing Report

I've been amazed lately on what I've seen in terms of anglers filming themselves while out fishing. I personally have a GoPro which is great, but can be a bit of a hassle sometimes. I also get a little paranoid that it's either going to get lost or stolen since it's small and was pretty expensive. The quality of footage is amazing though. Just when I thought that it couldn't get any better, there are a few anglers that now have drones that they fly above themselves while capturing fishing footage. It's a little ...

Fishing Report

One of the many things that I've learned over the years is to not assume that there aren't any dishonest people around the many marinas and businesses that I visit. One of the toughest lessons that I learned while out fishing was coming back to my boat's trailer that had been stripped of its axle and wheels. I'm not sure if it's changed over the years, but I remember leaving my things out in the open without worrying about someone stealing it, especially while at the lake. Those times have changed. I don't know ...

Tight Lines

Thanksgiving, as we know it in the United States has deep roots in the history of our culture. It was first celebrated by the Pilgrims in the Fall of 1621 so they could give thanks for surviving their first year in the new world. In 1789 President George Washington proclaimed a national day of thanks and in 1863 President Abe Lincoln first made Thanksgiving a National Holiday. Probably more than any of the others, two specific thoughts stand out in relation to Thanksgiving and the outdoors. First is how it emphasizes the extent to which we are still dependent upon ...
