Eight Mustang Wrestlers Take First At Home Tournament

For 42 years Oakdale High School has hosted one of the premier wrestling tournaments, the James Riddle Classic. This past Saturday, Dec. 9, the Mustangs not only hosted the tournament, they dominated it. With eight first place finishers Oakdale continues to be recognized as a powerhouse wrestling program across the state.

Football Mustangs Named As All-League Selections

The 2017 season has come to a close for the Oakdale Mustangs varsity football team. Although it came to an end short of the Sac-Joaquin Section title, the team did win the Valley Oak League by sweeping the other seven teams within it. Having accomplished this, the league noticed the efforts of the team and honored numerous members of the varsity squad.

Varsity Hoop Girls Win Pair Of Non-League Contests

The varsity Oakdale High School girls basketball team won a pair of non-league games this past week. Oakdale knocked off Chavez on the road 38-36. The girls fell to Enochs 57-52 at home on Thursday night, but bounced back to beat Buhach Colony 49-31 Friday night at home. In the team's home loss to Enochs, junior Grace Higle scored a game high 18 points for the Lady Mustangs. Oakdale led 23-22 at halftime and 40-34 entering the fourth quarter, but could not hang on to the lead.

Mustang Varsity Hoopsters Take Two Of Three Contests

Three games, two wins for the Oakdale High School varsity boys basketball team. Oakdale started the week off with a 59-53 home win over Buhach Colony on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The team trailed 26-25 at the half but outscored the Thunder 22-15 in the final quarter to rally for the win. Drew Legan led the way with 35 points. Sam Medlin scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the win.

Bellator Taps McDonald

Mixed Martial Arts fighter Michael "Mayday" McDonald will be featured in the Main Event at Bellator 191 this Friday night, Dec. 15. The event is being held in Newcastle, England and will be featured on Spike TV beginning at 6 p.m.

Oakdale Takes Second At Bakersfield Rumble

The fifth annual Rumble for the Rig was held at Bakersfield High School this past weekend. Oakdale placed second overall in the tournament with a total of 117 points, 14 points behind host Bakersfield for first place. There were 19 teams from the state participating in the tournament. Oakdale was well represented in the tournament and had four first place finishers and three second place finishers.

Mustangs Heartbroken In Quest For Football’s Blue Banner

The road to a second consecutive CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championship for the Oakdale Mustangs hit a major road block this past Friday night. The top seeded Mustangs took on Valley Oak League rival Manteca in the 2017-2018 Division III Championship game at Lincoln High School in Stockton, and fell to the number two seed Buffaloes, 34-17.

Lady Mustang Hoops Open Season Strong

Oakdale varsity girls basketball tipped off this past week with a trio of non-league games. Coach Julie Ford and her squad split a pair of road games to begin the season. Oakdale defeated Tokay 47-27 but ran into a buzz saw in Patterson, losing 70-38 on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Saturday the team returned home and defeated Downey 36-27.

Fishing Report

Last week I had the opportunity to get together with a few childhood friends for a day of sturgeon fishing. One of my friends, who is an avid fisherman, told me that when he went to purchase his sturgeon tag, he had to first purchase a fishing license. Thinking it was a mistake, he pulled his license out of his wallet and it read 2016. He couldn't believe that he was fishing all year long without a license. Legan Leads Varsity Mustang Boys To Hoops Win

The 2017-2018 Oakdale High School varsity boys basketball season is now three preseason games deep. On Monday, Nov. 27 the boys defeated Bret Harte 55-44. Oakdale followed up with a 66-50 home win over Pacheco on Thursday night. Saturday the boys fell to visiting Escalon, 65-41. The early preseason success is a positive start to the season, considering the team's rough recent history.

Mixed Results On Pitch For OHS Soccer Squads

It was an action packed week for the Oakdale varsity boys soccer team. Oakdale opened the preseason with a 2-0 home loss against Central Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Friday night the boys went to Turlock to play in the Pitman Tournament. Oakdale took on Waterford and defeated the Wildcats 1-0.
