Young Scientists Prepare For Regional Olympiad

Budding young scientists from throughout the region are gearing up for the 32nd Annual Stanislaus County Regional Science Olympiad slated for Saturday, March 3 at Modesto Junior College (West Campus Science Center). The event begins at 8:30 a.m. and will end with the Awards Ceremony at 4:30 p.m., held inside the Agriculture Pavilion. More than 550 students representing area junior and senior high schools will participate in the day-long event. The public is invited to attend. Admission and parking are free.

Mendoza Signs To Play For Stanislaus State

Oakdale High School senior Jake Mendoza has thought long and hard about his future. The former Mustang soccer standout made his decision on Friday, Feb. 16 with his friends, family and former teammates on hand at Ferrarese's Deli Restaurant in Oakdale. The senior signed with California State University Stanislaus to be a member of the school's soccer program.

Boys Basketball Season Comes To Close

The Oakdale varsity boys basketball season came to an end this past week as the boys wrapped up their season on the road. Valentine's Day saw the Mustangs (10-18, 3-11) go to Sierra to play the Timberwolves (13-14, 8-6). Unfortunately the Wolves showed no love to the Mustangs and defeated the visitors 62-51.

One of the nice things about tournament fishing is that you get to fish different places. For someone like myself who lives so close to the Delta, the thought of driving five hours away to fish doesn't come up too often.
