Fishing Report

About ten years ago, I started a fishing club at the school where I work. We practiced several times of the week while I taught them how to cast, tie knots, spool their reels, and anything else that I thought they would need to know to get them started. In order to keep them interested, we scheduled a few trips out to some of our local lakes and had little competitions amongst each other to see who was going to catch the first and biggest fish. The club ended up being a huge success but unfortunately after four years my ...

Baseball Postseason In Jeopardy After Loss To Sierra

After a promising start for first year manager Nathan Gregory and the Oakdale varsity baseball Mustangs, the team has fallen on hard times as of late. After being swept by Manteca the previous week (Oakdale was outscored 10-0 during the two-game series), Oakdale bounced back with a non-league 5-1 victory over Tokay on Friday, April 11 and managed a 5-4 victory over Sierra in Manteca on Tuesday, April 15. To keep pace with Valley Oak League (VOL) front runners Manteca and Sierra, OHS needed to complete the sweep of Sierra on Thursday, April 17 in front of the home crowd ...

Knights Ferry News Week of April 16, 2014

The sun rose through the pink tinted wispy clouds Easter Sunday to shine on the faithful assembled on Frymire Hill. Pastor Tanis, with his daughter and grandson, told of the appearance of his angel wife Sara Jean (mom, grandmother). She appeared to the grandson and daughter after the grandson was having trouble sleeping after Sara Jean's death and the angel appeared and told him it was time for him to sleep in his own bed and led him there. They said it looked and talked like Sara Jean with a white robe and wings down to the ground. Makes ...

Valley Home News Week of April 16, 2014

Looking across the freshly mowed grass of Valley Home school one could easily feel the pride the 100-plus year old institution instills within our community. The sky was a beautiful blue and filled with wispy white clouds that floated with the morning breeze, the kind you feel like you could just reach up and touch. It was the day before Easter and the Valley Home 4-Hers had hidden over 600 brightly decorated eggs throughout the school yard. As the warm morning sun peeked down, you could hear the children's excited laughter as they ran from one hidden egg to ...

Fishing Report

Fish attractants have been used in some form or another for many years. In the middle 1980s I can remember there being a big interest in fish attractants as several major tackle manufacturers added fish attractants to their product line. I can remember one specific brand that comes to mind "Bait mate," it was in a liquid form with a consistency that was similar to vegetable oil. One quick spray of this supposedly would create a feeding frenzy. Every major fishing show started to endorse the use of fish attractants and anglers followed accordingly. To add a little confusion manufacturers ...
