The Oakdale Stampede youth football teams held their regular season finale on Saturday, Oct. 30 at The Corral. Three of the Stampede clubs punched their ticket to the 2015 playoffs. The rookies, junior varsity and varsity teams all advanced to the playoffs and will host the Turlock Bulldogs on Saturday, Nov. 7. In the regular season finale, Oakdale junior varsity knocked off the Modesto Broncos 33-6. Touchdowns by Zeke Saffer and Kyle Redding helped the Stampede take the win. The peewee team fell 27-14 and the varsity took a 44-6 defeat.
Most eighth-graders are not proficient in geography, a new report by the U.S. Government Accounting Office finds, with just 24 percent of eighth-graders “proficient” in geography in the 2014 National Assessment of Educational Progress scores.

With the Aquatic Center at OHS out of commission for the time being, the varsity boys and girls water polo clubs hosted their home games against Central Catholic at the Oakdale Plunge (community pool) on Monday, Oct. 19. Both teams swam away from the competition as the girls took care of business first with a convincing 13-3 win, followed by a 17-5 victory for the boys.
I've been a longtime baseball fan and October baseball has always been one of my pleasures – especially the playoffs leading to the World Series where you can still see some good 'ol daytime baseball with the stands casting those autumn shadows onto the field.
