Council Says ‘No’ To Fire Study Payment

A consent agenda item by the city manager requesting the city pay over $8,300 for a joint fire study sparked discussion at the Monday, Nov. 18 Oakdale City Council meeting. The item had some council members questioning the intent of asking the city to pay for something they were told was being taken care of by the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire District.

$8.5 Million - Settlement In Officer’s Death

On the one-year anniversary of the death of off-duty Oakdale Police Officer Paul Katuszonek, the attorney representing the family of the officer announced that Gold Star Foods Inc., a food distribution and long haul trucking company based in Ontario, CA, agreed to pay $8.5 million to Katuszonek's family to settle claims that its truck driver employee caused his death.

Few Leads Surface In Walnut Heist

Three sets of gondola-type dual trailers filled with 140,000 pounds of dried and hulled walnuts were surreptitiously taken from GoldRiver Orchards off Enterprise Road and Highway 120 in Escalon. Authorities believe the theft of the nuts, valued at $400,000, occurred sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 and 7 a.m. Thursday. Oct. 31.
