Get Ready To Enjoy A Chocolate Hoedown

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Tuolumne County (UUFTC) is sponsoring the Chocolate Lovers' Hoedown, a community dance and dinner on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Manzanita Building at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds in Sonora. Silent and live auctions will include chocolate goodies and other treasures suitable for Valentine's gifts. Homemade truffles will be for sale. All are encouraged to come ready to eat and dance. Western garb is optional but appropriate.

History Center Reopening After Annual Revamp

The Northern Mariposa County History Center will be reopening its doors to the public on Thursday, Feb. 8, with a similar schedule as in 2017: Thursday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., plus Memorial Day and Labor Day. The center is at 10301 State Highway 49 in Coulterville.

A brief rainstorm, followed by sunny skies, produced a double rainbow over Oakdale around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25 with residents treated to the colorful show. Weather service forecasters indicated rainfall should end by 7 p.m. Thursday with just a few hundredths of an inch falling in scattered showers throughout the region.

The Oakdale Lions Club recently sponsored the Oakdale Leo service club. LEO stands for Leadership, Experience, Opportunity. The Leo Club was chartered a few months ago and was celebrated at a recent Lions Club meeting. Leo members range in age from 12 to 17 and work independently of the Lions Club doing their own community service projects. The Lions Club provides advisors to the Leo Club but lets the kids make their own decisions regarding community service and fundraising. The Lions Club is very excited to welcome this new youthful service group to the Oakdale community.

Lady Mustangs

The Oakdale High School varsity girls soccer team had a pair of road games this past week. Both of the Valley Oak League games ended in a tie. On Tuesday, Jan. 16, Oakdale (6-5-2, 2-3-2) headed to Tracy to face Kimball (3-12-2, 2-3-1) and tied 2-2. Each team scored one goal in each half. Freshman Hannah Guthrie scored both goals for Oakdale and the goals were assisted by Krissy Lolonis and Brianna Montoya. Oakdale led 2-1 late but Kimball tied the game in the final minute.
