Dominant Performance By Mustangs During Homecoming Week

Homecoming 2017 saw plenty of decorations, signs, fans in the stands and even the annual crowning of a Queen and Princess at halftime of the varsity football game on Friday night. However, on the field, it was business as usual for the varsity Oakdale Mustangs. The team had a 48-0 lead at halftime over Sierra and won the game 48-7 in the Valley Oak League showdown.

Football Preview

After the first month of Valley Oak League action, the Oakdale Mustangs are tied for first place with Central Catholic at 4-0. This Friday night, Oakdale travels to Kimball High School to face the Jaguars. Oakdale is coming off a 48-7 home win over Sierra. The Mustangs have shown zero signs of a "championship hangover," performing at a consistently high level. In the four VOL games this season, Oakdale has only allowed 46 points, while scoring 185.

Foothill Horizons Plans Dedication

The Stanislaus County Office of Education and Foothill Horizons Outdoor School will host a special dedication ceremony to commemorate the official opening of "Carl's Campfire Circle" on Monday, Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at Foothill Horizons in Sonora, 21925 Lyons Bald Mountain Road. Every year, 6,000 students from Stanislaus County participate in three to five days of interactive science education at Foothill Horizons' overnight facility in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Stampede Scoreboard

The Oakdale Stampede traveled to Turlock High School to face the Bulldogs in Cencal Youth Football action on Saturday. For the varsity it was a successful road trip, and for the junior varsity and peewee teams it was a long trip back to the Cowboy Capital of the World.

Volleyball Team Continues To Impress In VOL

The three-time defending Valley Oak League volleyball champion Lady Mustangs earned two more wins this week. The girls defeated both Manteca and Kimball to improve to 9-1 in league play.

Tennis Girls Serve Up Mixed Results

Down to the wire in Valley Oak League action, the Oakdale Mustangs girls tennis spilt their matches this past week. Oakdale defeated Lathrop 9-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 10 but fell to Central Catholic 7-2 two days later.

Cross Country Runs Muddy SuperCross

Coming off an impressive performance by all of the Oakdale cross country teams, Oakdale hit a rough patch in the Hughson Supercross. The course featured mud bogs and hay bales in the 4000 meter races. Oakdale's James Forkner placed ninth overall for the varsity boys. The speedy senior finished the grueling course at 14:14. Other notable senior finishes were Ben Miller at 15:07 (36th) and Cesar Garcia at 16:11 (57th).

Water Polo Teams Win Big In League

Thursday evening was a successful one for both the boys and girls water polo teams. The varsity clubs welcomed in Central Catholic for a Valley Oak League showdown at the OHS Aquatic Center. The girls hit the pool first and won 20-1 over the Raiders. Oakdale scored eight first quarter goals to set up the big night. The Lady Mustangs then scored a dozen more goals throughout the evening to pull away for the win. Camryn O'Neal was inside the net for Oakdale only allowing one goal with numerous saves on the night. Lady Golfers Remain Perfect

Three matches filled the schedule for the Oakdale girl golfers this past week and they won each of them. The team improved to 14-0 on the season with wins over Weston Ranch, Manteca and Kimball.

Fishing Report

When I think about fishing in October, I think about great weather, great fishing, and the opening of duck hunting season. Currently on the Delta, the duck hunters are in full force, racing around the Delta setting up all their blinds for the hunting season. For the most part, they usually stick to the many flooded islands and less populated areas.
