Though fewer cars are on the road at night than during the daytime, driving at night is still dangerous. In fact, the National Safety Council notes that drivers' risk of being in fatal car crashes is three times greater at night than it is during the daytime.
The Modesto Junior College Civic Engagement Project (CEP) invites the community to a screening of the documentary film 'Resilience' on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The free event is part of the CEP Spring Film and Lecture Series. Campus parking is available for $2 in student parking lots.
An early morning crash involving two vehicles on Milnes Road, east of Albers Road, resulted in the deaths of both drivers. They were the only people in the vehicles and were identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office as Edward Brown, 48, of Hickman and Todd Mendenhall, 52, of Waterford.
It's so nice to see the almond blossoms! For many this is a sneezing situation, but after the winter we have all had it is also a wonderful sign of a beautiful spring just ahead. It has definitely been a hard, wet, windy and rainy winter! Again this past weekend the wind and rain took down several trees in Valley Home. Trees were down on each campus at the school on Friday. Wow what a crazy winter we are having. Looking forward to spring for sure!

Calling all square dancers: Even if you haven't danced in some time, all are welcome to come and visit the Skirts 'n Flirts group for fun, exercise and friendships. Learn to square dance at the workshops each Wednesday, corner of F Street and Lambuth Avenue in Oakdale. Singles, couples, children ages 8 and up all welcome. For the 12th consecutive year, the Stanislaus Association of School Administrators (ACSA) Charter, along with the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE), Mocse Credit Union and E. & J. Gallo Winery, will be honoring students who have succeeded despite challenges. For 2017, NASCAR has several changes in the news. First, and foremost, it is no longer the "Sprint Cup" series. It is now the "Monster Energy NASCAR Cup" series.
