Playoff Football Preview

Coming off a convincing 56-12 home win over McNair on Nov. 9, the Oakdale Mustangs quest for another Section title continues. This Friday night the Mustangs welcome the number nine seed, Vanden, to The Corral. The Vanden Vikings come from the Solano County Athletic Conference and are from Fairfield. In their playoff opener the Vikings outlasted the eighth seeded Yuba City Honkers 34-33 in double overtime.

Families Gather For Annual Salmon Fest

This past Saturday, Nov. 11, hundreds gathered at the Stanislaus River Park in Knights Ferry for the ninth annual Salmon Festival, hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, East Stanislaus Resource Conservation District, FISHBIO, and other local partners.

Oakdale Police Department Lt. Joe Carrillo smiles along with Geri Hernandez of the American Red Cross as they encourage donor Alyssa Heinz of Oakdale during the recent community blood drive hosted at the city's Gene Bianchi Community Center. Carrillo shows Heinz he already made his donation; Heinz said this was her second time donating. Hernandez said it was an "awesome" blood drive, with a goal of 24 pints of blood and the actual collection of 39, which can help save the lives of up to 117 people.

Annual Lamplight Tours Offered In Columbia

Columbia State Historic Park and Friends of Columbia are proud to present this year's Lamplight Tour, "The Ladies' Gift." Participants will be guided through the decorated town during the walking play while listening to snippets of the town's happenings. Docent-led Lamplight Tours will run Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 beginning at 5:30 p.m. and leaving every 15 minutes. Tickets are on sale now.

Keep Baby Safe Program Receives Additional Funding

The Stanislaus County Health Services Agency (SCHSA) announced this past week that the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has provided grant funding to the Keep Baby Safe (KBS) Car Seat Safety Program. This is the third consecutive year the KBS program has received these funds and the grant period is from Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018.
