Lois Souza, age 88, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2016 at the Oakdale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her family by her side. Lois Mearl Harrell was born on October 27, 1927 to Miller Rainey Harrell and Pearl Faye Gray in Berkeley, CA. Lois graduated from El Cerrito High School and moved to Oakdale, CA after high school where she met and married the love of her life, Tony Souza on July 1, 1950 in Reno, NV. Darald Dean Brake went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2016 at his home in Oakdale at the age of 73. Darald was born on December 10, 1942 to John and Marjorie Brake in Lindsay, California, but was raised in Ivanhoe and went to Redwood High School. He settled in Oakdale and has lived there for the past several years. Darald began working with his father farming and driving the tractor at the age of 7 and never stopped working. Debbie Lynn Stone, 58, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 31, 2016. Debbie was born on December 22, 1957 in Turlock, California. She grew up in Modesto. She married the love of her life, Randal Stone, on July 25, 1975. They were married for 32 years. She raised her family in Escalon for 24 years. The past 8 years she resided in Oakdale. She was an avid reader. However, her true happiness in life came from spending time with her family; she was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother.
Bill was born in Pittsburg, CA to Edward and Margaret Schippers. He attended school in Modesto, CA. Bill was a marine and he left on an honorable discharge. He worked at ACE Hardware for many years until his death. Bill is survived by 1 brother, 2 sisters, and his loving wife, Sharon, of 20 years.
Linda graduated OHS in 1962 and went on to receive her BA degree and teaching credentials at Fresno State. Linda was a Kindergarten teacher in Riverbank, CA in the early 70s, but in 1975 began working for SSA until her retirement (after 27 years) in 2002. Linda lived in the bay area prior to returning to Oakdale in 2005 to be closer to her mother, Marion Macdonald. They are now together again, in Heaven.

Modesto Junior College will host the 17th annual Intertribal Pow Wow on Sunday, April 17 from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on MJC's East Campus Quad, 435 College Ave., Modesto. The Pow Wow brings together and shares the culture and traditions of Native American people with the community and campus. The event is open to the public and admission is free. (In the event of rain the Pow Wow will be held in the pavilion of the Agriculture Center for Education on West Campus.)
The blessings of family ... As with most of you, on Easter we gathered with our families. For most it was a day of bright colorful egg hunts and visits with those we hold dear. For my family the holiday held many blessings. Strong family ties, including friends that care and share those family ties. Although this Easter had some bittersweet moments throughout the day, those family ties were strong and together we enjoyed a truly blessed Easter Day.
