Annual Drug Drop Effort Saturday At Courthouse

The 2018 edition of the 'Drop the Drugs' event is scheduled for Saturday, April 28 at the Stanislaus County Courthouse, 1100 I St., Modesto. Hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

ROLLING BILLBOARD

Saturday's sunny skies and mild temperatures made it a perfect day for a little driving around town – as Lloyd Stueve did with his familiar horse-drawn wagon. Not just out for a 'stroll' however, Stueve affixed a 'Juan Alanis for Stanislaus County Sheriff' campaign sign to the back of his wagon, creating a rolling billboard to indicate his support for the candidate as he made his way around the city streets.

Subdivision Landscaping Tasks Taken On By City

The City of Oakdale will assume landscape maintenance responsibilities in the Bridle Ridge and Vineyard subdivisions starting Monday, April, 30. City staff will be on site in both communities performing maintenance duties five days per week (excluding city holidays).

Entries Sought For State Duck Stamp Art Contest

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is seeking talented waterfowl artists to submit their original artwork to the 2018-2019 California Duck Stamp Art Contest. Submissions will be accepted from May 11 through June 11.

City Issues Concessions Request For Proposals

The City of Oakdale Public Works Department recently constructed the Oakdale Community Park. This facility is a gated park that includes a skate park, basketball court, play structure, exercise area, amphitheater and restroom facilities. The park also has a concession stand located at the center of the property.

From the moment they received his diagnosis the Campbell family knew the prognosis wasn't in their favor. In the spring of 2017, Lance Campbell and his wife Sandy finally had a name for the mystery ailments which plagued him – Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)/Lou Gehrig's disease. On April 8, 2018, Campbell's suffering ended.

Swimmers Successful In Home Meet

Oakdale High School swimmers defeated both Manteca and Central Catholic in a dual Valley Oak League meet this past Friday inside the Oakdale High School Aquatic Center. The boys defeated Manteca 106-47 and Central Catholic 108-47. The girls were also winners with a 118-52 decision over Manteca and a 114-50 victory over Central Catholic.

Columbia Fire Academy Plans Thursday Ceremony

The Columbia College Fire Academy will host its graduation ceremony and presentation of certificates to 25 students who successfully completed the Fire Technology Program this spring. The event, which is open to the general public, will be held Thursday, April 26 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion at the college.

SHELTER IMPROVEMENT

The City of Oakdale Animal Shelter play yard was recently the site of an exciting improvement project. A much needed sidewalk leading to a seating area was installed, providing a pathway to help keep little dog feet, as well as bigger people feet, dry and mud free. Staff and volunteers commented how nice it is to walk on the solid surface, especially with the recent heavy spring rains. The City of Oakdale provided the concrete, Riverbank's Home Depot provided equipment, and volunteers Al Scoles and Mark Johansen provided the labor.

OJUSD Junior Scientists Bring Home The Bling

Oakdale Joint Unified School District was well represented on Saturday, April 21 at the 21st Annual Elementary Science Olympiad. Students from Cloverland, Fair Oaks, Magnolia and Sierra View Elementary Schools took part in the competition.
