RIDE THE WAVES

Volunteers from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary spent some time in Oakdale on Sunday morning, offering free boat inspection checks in the CostLess parking lot, helping make sure watercraft of all shapes and sizes are ready for the boating season ahead. Here, inspector Ron Clark, right, checks off some items on the list while working with boat owner Ed Keeler of Oakdale. The Coast Guard Auxiliary has been offering the free inspectors since 2006, added inspector David Chovanak, who also was working the event. Those that passed received a sticker to display on the vessel indicating their water worthiness.

Science Fair’s Top Honors Presented

Elementary and Oakdale Junior High students were recently acknowledged for their work in the 34th Annual Science Fair. Approximately 70 projects will represent Oakdale Joint Unified School District at the Stanislaus County Science Fair in May.

YES Company Auditions For Summer Production

YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company is seeking Stanislaus County students in grades 7-12, to be actors, singers, dancers, and crew members for the production of "Footloose," to be performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts, July 21 through 30. No experience or preparation is necessary and all audition materials will be provided. Students should plan to attend only one of the following open auditions:

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 0.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.81/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 0.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.29/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.
