FEEL THE LOVE

This year's Love Oakdale is scheduled for Saturday, April 21. Volunteers will gather for a kickoff rally at the Oakdale Community Park on South Yosemite Avenue. Participants will meet with their project leaders at 8 a.m. and enjoy breakfast and coffee at the community park before the 9 a.m. rally and then will fan out to the work locations to spend a day beautifying and benefitting the community.

Ecological Tours Offered On April Weekends

Going on throughout the month of April, weekends will feature Ecological Reserve Tours at Elkhorn Slough, scheduled through the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Volunteers lead walks every Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Binoculars and bird books are available for the public to borrow at no cost. The visitor center and main overlook are fully accessible. The day use permit fee is $4.12 per person, ages 16 and older (permits may be purchased on-site). Boat Expo Scheduled At Woodward Reservoir

Stanislaus County Parks and Recreation is bringing a Boat Expo to the main boat ramp of Woodward Reservoir from Friday, April 20 through Sunday, April 22. Hours of the event are Friday, noon to 5p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Swim Team Wins On The Road

Oakdale High School swim teams earned a road win over Sierra on Friday, April 13. The girls team won 132-41 and the boys battled it out in taking a 90-81 victory.

Mustang Golfers Stay On Par For VOL Title

The Oakdale High School boys golf team continues to dominate the Valley Oak League. The Mustangs completed the season sweep over East Union this past week with a 200-243 road win. With the win, the boys improved to 11-0 and are in position to win the Valley Oak League.

Oakdale Area Homes Improved Using HERO Financing

Over 340 homes in Oakdale and Riverbank have been made more energy-efficient, or have had renewable energy systems installed since HERO Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing became available to area homeowners in 2014. HERO is an innovative finance mechanism that empowers homeowners to make energy and efficiency improvements – such as replacing inefficient HVAC systems, installing new windows and doors, or going solar – and to pay for them over time through a voluntary, additional line item on their property taxes.

I was recently out fishing on the Delta with a friend and he mentioned to me out of frustration that he had all this tackle and still fishes with the same baits every time.
