Emergency Domestic Water Well Financial Assistance Offered

On Aug. 26, the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors approved a pilot program to assist domestic/residential well owners that are experiencing "dry well" conditions. Loans will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis after a fully completed application is received and approved.

Operation Lifesaver Marks September As Rail Safety Month

There are 5,352 miles of railroad in California and 10,285 grade crossings. Last year there were 72 trespasser fatalities and 41 highway-rail crossing fatalities, all of which could have been avoided if trespassers and drivers were obeying the laws. California ranks #1 in the nation in both Trespassing and Grade Crossing Deaths. Last year in California there were a total of 146 highway grade-crossing incidents.

Fatal Accident On Highway 108

Emergency personnel responded to a fatal injury accident midafternoon Tuesday, Aug. 26 along Highway 108 near Lover's Leap. Initial reports from the scene indicated at least one confirmed fatality in the crash that occurred about 2:30 p.m., with the Stanislaus County Coroner called to the scene, and two others listed as 'critical' when transported out. At least one victim was flown out via air ambulance and authorities reported victims had serious burns due to the crash and a vehicle fire, which also started an adjacent field fire.

Knights Ferry News Week of August 27, 2014

Knights Ferry School got off to an interesting start - two days without school because of the water main break in town. The pipe was by the new bridge and the Community Service District helped dig up the pipe and replace it. County health officials put a boil your tap water before drinking in place for two days. All the town restaurants had to close until the water passed the health department's tests. By Friday all was back to normal.
