The 2015 Fresno Food Expo, presented by Union Bank, celebrated its fifth anniversary on Thursday, July 23 when 121 food and beverage companies ranging from producers and growers to manufacturers and processors from throughout the eight-county San Joaquin Valley met with 917 pre-qualified regional, national and international foodservice and retail buyers, restaurant chefs and institutions, as well as more than 1,100 members of the public looking to support local business.
Two wildfires, Willow Fire in Madera County and Cabin Fire in Tulare County, have prompted local air officials to issue a health cautionary statement for smoke impacts throughout the eight-county air basin: San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and the Valley portion of Kern counties. Currently smoke impacts are concentrated in the mountainous and foothill areas of the air basin, but impacts on the Valley floor are possible until the fires are extinguished.
Under a brightly shining summer sun, Saturday, July 25 brought the final swim meet of the season for the Oakdale Gators swim team. The event took place at Oakdale High School's Aquatic Center in front of a large amount of swimmers and their fans from five other cities, along with a few hundred Oakdale faithful.
Fred passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2015. He was born in Verden, Oklahoma on October 14, 1926 to John and Sarah Howell. He had one brother John Ed and three sisters Anna Mae, Orpha, and Beth.

Oak Valley Bancorp (NASDAQ: OVLY), the bank holding company for Oak Valley Community Bank and Eastern Sierra Community Bank, recently reported consolidated financial results. For the three months ended June 30, 2015, consolidated net income available to common shareholders was $1,510,000, or $0.19 per diluted common share. This compared to consolidated net income of $1,526,000, or $0.19 per diluted common share, for the prior quarter and $2,537,000, or $0.32 per diluted common share for the same period a year ago.

Earlier this month, the San Joaquin Farm Bureau Federation (SJFBF) announced its endorsement of farmer and former County Supervisor Ken Vogel for the 12th Assembly District that covers portions of Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties. The seat is currently held by Assemblywoman Kristin Olsen of Modesto.
