Welcome Holiday Benefit Continues For Drivers

Average retail gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 7.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.48/gallon Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 201 gas outlets in Modesto. This compares with the national average that has fallen 9.6 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.28/gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Artwork Submission Sought For Arbor Week Contest

Trees are an essential part of California's climate and are vital to improving air quality and conserving water. To help educate Californians on the value that trees provide to building successful, healthy cities and neighborhoods, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and California ReLeaf are announcing the annual statewide Arbor Week poster contest for students in third, fourth and fifth grades. Mustangs Will Play NorCal Bowl Game

The 2014 CIF Sac-Joaquin Division III Section Champions, the Oakdale High School Mustangs, received notification Sunday that they will also take part in the CIF NorCal Division II 2014 Regional Football Championship Bowl Game. The Mustangs (13-1, 6-1) will travel to Concord to take on the Ugly Eagles of Clayton Valley Charter (14-0, 5-0).

Crews Rescue Horse From Oakdale Pond

Early morning Thursday, Dec. 4, Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District (SCFPD) firefighters were dispatched to the 13000 block of Horseshoe Road in Oakdale for a horse in a pond that needed rescuing. Upon arrival, SCFPD firefighters requested additional assistance from Modesto Fire Department and within about an hour, they rescued Sassy, the 24-year-old horse, from the cold water.

Wrestlers Grapple To Second Place Showing In Bakersfield

Though still missing plenty of team members – continuing with their football season – the Oakdale High School wrestling team packed its gym bags and headed down south to Bakersfield for the weekend's annual Rumble for the Rig tournament. OHS claimed second place out of 20 top wrestling schools from throughout the state. Oakdale had many standouts including four first place finishers, a pair of second place finishers and three others finishing in the top five.

This year, while celebrating Thanksgiving, I mentioned to a family member that I was excited about my upcoming fishing trip. There was a very large turnout for the Feast put on by the Junior High students of Knights Ferry School. Students Learning Through Service

Cy Cole, founder and Director of Oakdale Academy, recently offered his students an opportunity to combine service and education. The most recent application came in the way of sharing the story of a Waterford couple in need of assistance. As a follow-up to the students spending time serving, they were asked to recount the experience in an article, as if writing for a newspaper.
