Volunteers Being Sought For College Mentoring Program

Interested in mentoring a high school student as he or she transitions to college? The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) is currently looking for mentors for its '6 Cups to College' Mentor Program. This program is designed to help high school students as they transition to college and early college students as they prepare for careers. Community members are paired with students who would most benefit from assistance with college and career guidance. Mentors and mentees are matched by gender, and when possible, by college major/career interest.

FERRY’S FAIRE

Knights Ferry will be the scene on Sunday, April 29 for the annual Gold Country Peddler's Faire. Hours for the event are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the Peddler's Faire is hosted, rain or shine. Track And Field Teams Slow Down The Lancers

Action on Thursday, April 19 saw Oakdale High School hosting East Union in track and field events inside The Corral. The highly anticipated Valley Oak League showdown saw both the boys and girls Mustang teams win with ease. The varsity boys won 100-30 and the girls crafted a 91-37 victory.

Community Hospice Recognizes Volunteers At Annual Luncheon

Community Hospice, the oldest and largest nonprofit hospice provider in the Central Valley, celebrated and recognized its volunteers at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon and Award Ceremony on April 18. All volunteers received a special certificate of recognition. Several volunteers were recognized for outstanding service and dedication to the mission of Community Hospice and four dedicated volunteers were awarded the 2017 Mary Jean Coeur-Barron Volunteer of the Year Award.

The public is invited to a hymn sing at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening, April 29 at Escalon First Baptist Church. Many churches do not currently sing the traditional well known hymns, yet many people still love to hear and sing them. This hymn sing is for all who fit in that category.
