Oak Valley Community Bank announced the promotions of June Lopez to Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager and Kimberly Karp to Assistant Customer Service Manager. Both Lopez and Karp work in the Bank's full-service branch in Escalon, located at 1910 McHenry Ave.
Lopez has 18 years of banking experience and has been with Oak Valley Community Bank since 2002. She was instrumental in the opening of the Escalon branch, serving as Customer Service Manager.

I want to thank Oakdale Recycle Center for being so honest the other day. I decided to clean up around the ranch as I do two or three times a year. I gathered up all the recyclable stuff and took it to the Oakdale Recycle Center on my way to Oakdale. While I was checking out to get the money I was having a conversation with the clerk while she was guiding a truck on the scale and adding up my tags. Dear Editor,
The Oakdale Police Officer's Association would like to thank the citizens of Oakdale for all their support this year as we faced the tough economic times together. We were faced with layoffs (8) that would have seriously affected the safety of you and your family. The Oakdale Police Officer Association chose to take the following concessions in order to preserve the level of safety you deserve.
1) Switching to a new medical insurance provider, which saved approximately 5 percent or $80,000.
2) Agreed to take 12 furlough days saving approximately $102,220.

Glenna Arnett

Glenna 'Yvonne' Arnett, 75, of Modesto died Tuesday, July 28 at Alexander Cohen Hospice House, Hughson.
She was a native of Oklahoma and previously lived in Sonora for 25 years.
Mrs. Arnett owned and operated 'Beauty and the Budget,' a retail beauty supply store. She started her store in Modesto, then it moved to Oakdale, and finally to Sonora where it has been for over 15 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana Arnett of Riverbank; brother, Darrell Ireland of Modesto; and two grandchildren.
Graveside service was held July 31 at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.

Richard Eddie Meier, 64, of Oakdale died Saturday, Aug. 1.
Mr. Meier was a native of Venice, CA. He lived in Oakdale for two years.
He worked for Granite Construction for 18 years.

Jean Lorraine O'Hearn, 76, died Friday, July 31 of cancer at Alexander Cohen Hospice House.
She was born in Modesto to Sylvester and Hattie Hoover.
She was one of the first women to become an office manager/controller for Aetna Life. Later, she was an accountant and office manager for the Moffet Company, San Jose. She retired to Oakdale 10 years ago.

Ross Barton 'Bart' Paul, 73, died suddenly on Sunday, July 26 while on a golf vacation in Klamath Falls, OR.
He was born to Waite and Marlea Paul in Turlock. He grew up throughout the central valley of California. He graduated from Oakdale High School in 1954. In 1957, he fell in love with and married Hazel Howell of Modesto.

The mountain lion was sighted again, this time Bryce Hobbs, son of Bridgette and Dusty, was walking the dogs on the Rushing Rapids Trail near dusk (south side of the river) when he heard some sound like yelping and the lion stepped onto the trail. Bryce held the dogs and then the lion went into the brush. The Fish and Game were going to look into this, as maybe the sound was young lions or maybe the lion's dinner! Bryce was really scared!
