Water Charges Debated

The state's Water Use Efficiency Senate Bill 7, known as SBx7-7, is a regulation on agricultural water measurement and the Oakdale Irrigation District is among the water suppliers that will be affected. The OID Board of Directors discussed what's going to be expected of the district to comply with the law and the impacts it will have on OID water rates at the June 19 regular meeting.

School Board Moves On Volz Fund Change

With concerns that the Leo Volz Scholarship Fund could be in danger, the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees held a discussion on options on how to deal with financial changes in the scholarship fund's balance and the fund's investment firm. The fund was established in 1996-97 to provide full tuition and books scholarships, paid for through the fund's interest income, to Oakdale High School seniors who represent the most outstanding, well-rounded students in their class.

New Local Stamp Club Grows Out Of Hobby

Summer Program Starts Monday

Super Summer Camp, offered by Oakdale Joint Unified School District, is kicking off for the second year on Monday, June 4. When the City of Oakdale decided to stop operating the program, the school district took over the summer recreation program for children and added a few extras.

Water Talks - Knell Addresses U.S. House Committee

Steve Knell, General Manager of the Oakdale Irrigation District, was invited to speak at special meeting of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources on March 19 at Fresno City Hall. The oversight field hearing was on "California Water Crisis and its Impacts: The Need for Immediate and Long-Term Solutions."

Irrigation Season Status Update

The Oakdale Irrigation District brought water into its canal system on Saturday, March 15 to prepare for the start of the irrigation season, as reported by OID General Manager Steve Knell at the March 18 regular meeting of the Board of Directors. The season was initially planned to start on March 3 but rains allowed for the delay. It was reported that there were no major issues and only one minor issue with tumbleweed when bringing water into the canals.

Board Approves Spending Of Common Core $$

To implement the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Oakdale Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees approved the expenditure plan for it at the March 10 regular meeting. The district receives funds in a one-time allotment of a little over $1.05 million from the state and they may be spent in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015. The CCSS are required to be in place for the 2014-2015 year and the funds must be spent by July 1, 2015.
