Programs Offset Pool Op Costs

Now that the new Oakdale High School pool has been unveiled, it's not only hosting school-related water sports and PE classes, but has become home to some community swim programs as well. These outside users are also providing income to the district to offset the pool's operational costs.

Girls Encouraged In Science, Math At Tech Trek

Several junior high school girls from Oakdale, Escalon, and Riverbank got to experience a taste of college life for a week over the summer when the local chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) selected the 10 girls to attend a science- and math-focused camp called Tech Trek at CSU Fresno.

Freshmen Encouraged In ‘Passport’ Program

After seven weeks, many Oakdale High School freshmen are still making adjustments to life on the high school campus and the increased academic rigor. Recently, the students participated in an intervention-type program called Passport To Success to get "grounded" and focus on their academics.

Victoria Kempton, a fifth grader at Magnolia Elementary School, is home and recovering from her injuries sustained in a serious bicycle accident on a steep grade on Oak Avenue on Monday, Sept. 20. The 10-year-old was medi-flighted directly to UC Davis Hospital due to concerns for possible brain injury because of a skull fracture and swelling.

Homecoming is just days away, on Friday, Oct. 1, and students from each class at Oakdale High School kicked off Homecoming Week with the painting of windows on downtown businesses on Saturday, Sept. 25. The windows reflect the Disney theme with each grade levels' individual Disney movie theme.

Oakdale High School's Homecoming will march on this year on Oct. 1 and the annual Homecoming parade has been reinstated after a one-year hiatus.

The Oakdale Irrigation District's 2010 irrigation season will officially end on its 17th rotation on Sept. 30 and the 2011 irrigation season will then begin, with unanimous approval by the district's Board of Directors at the Sept. 21 regular meeting. The final irrigation of this year will be at the end of a 12-day rotation at midnight on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
