A variety of artists will be hitting the stage at J-H Ranch in Oakdale for the sixth annual Sierra View Music Festival as local resident and business owner, Jim Brunk, brings big name bands and sounds to this small town on Saturday, Aug. 23. Gates open at 1 p.m. and the music will start at 1:30 p.m.
Another birthday has gone by and the year is moving along at its normally quick pace. Birthdays have always been a cause for celebration in my life. We are not guaranteed a long life so every year that I reach a new age, I find myself reflecting, feeling very blessed, and thankful that I had a year filled with a lot of laughter and love.
Another year is coming close to an end. Every year seems to go by faster and faster. I have heard after a certain age everything starts rolling downhill. I don't believe that is entirely true, but I do believe the speed has increased each year.
If you have a sweet tooth then you were probably at the Sconza Candy Sale on Saturday, Oct. 19 sorting through different varieties of candy that they offered guests at a discount. This was the Fourth Annual Candy Factory Sale that they plan to continue on an annual basis. The sale is held once a year on every third Saturday in October.
The agriculture industry is a huge part of the Central Valley economy and most of the residents in this area know when summer is coming to an end due to the machines rumbling along the rows in an orchard and stirring up (more than) a little dust. Late August is the beginning of harvest for many of the nut growers that have trees that produce almonds and walnuts, with several weeks typically spent getting the crop in.
The Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) will be at Petco in the Crossroads Shopping Center in Riverbank on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will have several pets available for adoption.
The 21st Annual Chocolate Festival will be hitting the streets of Oakdale on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19. Chocolate Avenue will be returning and will have a few new vendors as well as some of the returning favorites.

Rhys Ludlow is an eight-year-old second grader that will be having a 'Dog Gone Good Lemonade Stand' at Sierra View Elementary School on Saturday, May 18 from noon to dusk … or until he no longer has lemonade. This lemonade stand is not only to participate in National Lemonade Day but also to raise funds for a good cause.
