Lemonade Stand Supports Cause

Rhys Ludlow is an eight-year-old second grader that will be having a 'Dog Gone Good Lemonade Stand' at Sierra View Elementary School on Saturday, May 18 from noon to dusk … or until he no longer has lemonade. Italian Dairymen Touch Down For Tour

Not your usual stop, but a tour bus pulled up in the parking lot of the A.L. Gilbert Company in Oakdale recently, filled with nearly four dozen Italian dairymen and their spouses. For the most part, the Italian visitors were in California on vacation, but decided to work a few days so they took a tour of the A.L. Gilbert Company and of a few dairies in the Stanislaus-San Joaquin County area.

Locally Owned Tire Shop Stays Strong

While the economy remains tough, you may see some empty storefronts or the occasional 'going out of business' sign, but that is not the case for locally owned and operated A&M Tires and Wheels at 9837 Highway 120 in Oakdale. Small business owner Alex Ruiz opened the doors to A&M approximately two years ago and business is good. Tires and wheels are his business and he started in the tire industry in 1995, working for Big O Tires in Oakdale and Manteca before branching out with his own private shop.

Piece Of The Past Missing From Business

The red, white and blue pole that has been out in front of Norm's Barber Shop on West F Street in Oakdale for over 45 years has been stolen. The theft occurred overnight, sometime between when the business closed on Wednesday, Jan. 16 and re-opened the next day. The iconic barber pole was ripped off the wooden structure that it had been attached to for years.

Flowers And Much More At Downtown Locale

The new owners of the flower shop at 304 F St., downtown Oakdale, are a family. Leanne Hunteman and Cydni Staal are a mother and daughter team that work very well together. Other family members have jumped on board to help the business bloom, like Staal's daughters, Hannah, Haleigh, Elizabeth, and her brother, Matt Gordon. Judy Elam, Leanne's cousin, is the store manager and according to Hunteman, a true cowgirl. Elam is also a calf buyer and makes trips to Oregon to pick up cattle when she's not busy in the shop.
