Kathryn Ann Sarratt, 80, died peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 17.

She was born in San Francisco to Griff and Grace Hughes and had two younger brothers. She graduated from Mission High School in 1947, continuing her education at U.C. Berkeley.

She was interested in California history and was a second-generation San Franciscan. She loved growing up in the city and was active in many clubs and sports.

In 1950, she married her husband and relocated to Lodi until their move to Oakdale in 1952. They had four daughters.

Mrs. Sarratt later returned to school, earning her degree and teaching credential in 1973. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Oakdale and Riverbank school districts. She was respected and loved.

She was a very active lady. Her passions included volunteering with the Oakdale Parks & Recreation Commission for 40 years, as well as the Stanislaus County Recreation Commission; McHenry Mansion; California, Stanislaus, Oakdale, and Knights Ferry Historical Societies; AAUW; Friends of Oakdale Library; Cultus Club; Beta Sigma Phi; Eastern Star; Modesto Symphony; Oakdale Golf and Country Club; and Oakdale Ladies Golf Association, among others. As a member of these groups, she often “ran through the chairs,” holding many offices.

The family thanks those who provided care where she lived since leaving her home.

She is survived by her daughters, caregiver Sue (Doug) Condon of Oakdale, Amy Sarratt of Sebastopol, Ivy Sarratt of San Jose, Val (Peter) Beaudry of Kennewick, WA; grandchildren, Andy Condon, Katie (James) Stone, Allie Medina, Kathryn Medina, SSgt. Brian Beaudry, A1C Linda Beaudry; great-grandchildren, Emmalee Stone, Jamielynn Stone, and James “Beau” Beaudry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Sarratt; parents, Griff and Grace Hughes; and brothers, Jimmy Hughes and Dave (Joan) Hughes.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Alzheimer’s Aid Society, 2501 McHenry Ave., Modesto, CA 95350; or to the Knights Ferry History and Museum, P.O. Box 861, Knights Ferry, CA 95361.
