Valley Home News for September 12, 2012

POSTED September 12, 2012 12:05 a.m.

With so many activities going on this time of year, time has a way of slipping around pretty fast, so we thought that this might be a good time to remind everyone of the opportunity to let the lady of the house take a well earned break from kitchen duty. To enjoy a delicious dinner without all the work, just circle Saturday, September 22nd on your calendars and plan to attend the fundraiser dinner planned for that evening at our Valley Home Community Park. We are offering an opportunity to stop by and enjoy dinner in a park setting or purchase a take -home dinner. The menu will feature your choice of marinated boneless chicken sandwich or a tri-tip sandwich, served with pinto and kidney beans in addition to a pasta or potato salad. Soft drinks or bottled water will also be supplied. Valley Home’s own excellent caterer, Mike Jerome of Jerome Family Catering will be providing the food as was done at the Park dedication a little over a year ago, eliciting raves from all those attending the event. Tickets for the event are priced at $10.00 for adults or $5.00 for children under 12 years of age. For those of us who attended last year's event, we can attest to the delicious food served up by Mike on that occasion, and are eagerly looking forward to another great dinner on September 22nd.

Funds created from the dinner will be used for upkeep of the park and repairs when needed. This year it was necessary to make repairs to the water system for the lawn and plants and to repair some vandalism to areas in the park.

For tickets to the park event, call Winnie Mullins at 209-604-4843 to find where to secure tickets.

Michelle McKenzie gives us an update on the San Joaquin County Neighborhood Watch Pot Luck Meeting. Last year Valley Home Neighborhood invited San Joaquin Neighborhood Watch members to join us at our Neighborhood Night Out and this year we have been invited to attend their meeting. It will be a potluck barbeque at the Martin's home at 15339 Henry Road on Sunday September 30th, beginning at 2:00 p.m. This is the beautiful estate where our Valley Home Park fundraisers began several years ago. If you would like to attend please contact Coletta Martin at 652-9223.

Our Valley Home 4-H'ers are thrilled to learn that this year they will be going to Disneyland for a two day overnight stay. Wow! The trip has always been a lot of fun, but this year, it is going to be super, reports member Cody Bartholomew.

Lots of interesting project groups were offered at the 4-H sign-ups at last week's meeting. Our 4-H'ers were able to choose from approximately 30 projects, including archery, woodworking, leather craft, welding, candy making and outdoor adventures. Could the candy makers use someone to taste samples? Your reporter is always happy to do her part.

Valley Home 4-H president, Jordan McCain met with his officers last week to finalize plans for the coming year. From what we are told there are many exciting things planned for the new 4-H year.

Our past president, Jenna Heaton is finding success on the golf course as a member of the Lady Mustangs golf team. Jenna credits her coaches, McGhee and Fields for helping her learn the game and creating a team that believes in each other. Good luck girls!
