Very willing to plug local businesses...

He ran to the House of Beef, enjoyed some local pastries, interviewed lots of jobseekers, and generally showcased the Oakdale community.

Chris Burrous of Good Day Sacramento was in town Wednesday, Sept. 9, with The Oakdale Leader office serving as the gathering spot for live, on-air interviews with residents looking for work. Some had the chance to give their résumés live, in 30-second clips over the air, and others also had the opportunity to tape a clip that was uploaded to the Channel 31 website for perusal by potential employees.

Danielle Salzman of Oakdale was in the office bright and early, as the station went live with the program before the sun was even up.

She is looking for a position as a phlebotomist and had some last minute powdering and hair styling done by the girls from Pin-Ups Salon prior to her on camera time.

Throughout the morning program, the station in Sacramento would send it back to Burrous for a live feed and there was never a shortage of things to talk about.

There was even a cheer when James Shopes of Oakdale announced his cell phone rang shortly after he appeared on camera, someone calling with an offer of work.

“It’s just a quick side job,” he said. “But anything is good.”

Eager to take her spot in the hot seat to give an on air résumé, Sally Cage said she had been looking forward to the day.

“I got laid off a month ago, so here I am,” she said.

There was résumé help, job search tips and a contingent of Channel 31 personnel on hand to help the event run smoothly.

“The quality of the people was some of the best,” Burrous said of those turning out, adding that the TV station likes to partner with local businesses, such as The Leader, to bring the video résumé service to town.

“We like to do it at least once a month,” he said of visiting Central Valley communities for the live broadcasts.
