Drive-By Shooting Mars Quiet Holiday Weekend

Although cooler weather and a bout of rain showers on Friday, May 25 kept many people from the waterways, resulting in zero rescues on the Stanislaus River and Woodward Reservoir, a drive-by shooting on Saturday marred an otherwise quiet Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Police are still investigating the incident but say at approximately 6:11 p.m. in the 100 block of South Sixth Avenue, two vehicles were caught leaving the scene after a home was sprayed with bullets. The incident is believed to be gang-related. No one was injured and no arrests have been made.

The suspects’ vehicles were described as black, and one may be a Hyundai.

Witnesses said that two Hispanic males were seen walking and laughing around the corner from the incident before they got into the two cars and fled the area.

However, police did cite an Oakdale woman for violating the social host ordinance on Saturday evening, around midnight.

Police received a call saying that there was a party in the 700 block of East G Street with underage drinking and smoking. When police arrived at the residence, they found six juveniles (under the age of 21) and eight minors (under the age of 18). There was a strong odor of marijuana and beer cans littering the residence.

A 26-year-old Oakdale woman was cited for the social host violation and a 25-year-old Oakdale man was cited for obstruction after he became belligerent and uncooperative with the officers.

The underage party-goers were released to the custody of their parents.
