Oakdale High's Danielle Onken digs on...

POSTED September 15, 2009 3:04 p.m.

The Oakdale High volleyball team would have had a hard time surprising anyone in the Valley Oak League with their excellent team, yet now it is virtually impossible, with the flawless tear the ladies are on as they enter VOL action.

Oakdale has taken its game to another level as the squad prepares for the defense of their co-VOL championship, winning three straight matches since returning from Nevada after the High Sierra Invitational in Reno.

Oakdale floored Turlock, Ripon and Hughson on consecutive nights, pushing their non-league production to the maximum in preparation for the VOL foes.

The Lady Mustangs only dropped one game in the three contests, the second game against Trans-Valley League powerhouse Ripon, finishing off the trio with an impressive 25-6 throttling of the Hughson Huskies.

Oakdale opened their run with a hard-fought road battle with Turlock High, squeaking by in the first game 28-26 before opening up with a 25-16, 25-14 finish to win the match in three.

Oakdale kept their momentum rolling with a home match against the Ripon Indians, giving the team a shot at redeeming themselves after a humiliating loss to the Indians on their floor a year ago.

Oakdale took advantage of the opportunity, blasting the perennial postseason program 3-1, with a 25-18, 23-25, 25-15, 25-22 outing.

The Lady Mustangs’ final tune-up before the important VOL schedule kicked off put the squad up against Hughson High, giving the league an ugly view of what this team can do when rolling on all cylinders.

Oakdale unmercifully smashed the Huskies 25-10, 25-12 and 25-6 to make a bold final statement leading up to its first VOL match against the Central Valley Hawks. Results of the Sept. 14 contest were not available at press time.

The Lady Mustangs are looking to continue to impress in the opening weeks of VOL action, when they play host to the Lathrop Spartans on Sept. 16, followed by a trip to Manteca to take on the East Union Lancers on Sept. 21.
