Valley Home News for March 14, 2012

POSTED March 13, 2012 3:30 p.m.

What a thrill to see our Valley Home Community almond tree orchards burst out in a gorgeous array of blossoms the past couple of weeks. The almond trees weren’t the only beautiful trees flaunting gorgeous blossoms. Ornamental plums, Magnolia trees and flowering shrubs rapidly followed suit adding to the array of color. The sight of all the flowering trees is one of the many things that make living in Valley Home such a great pleasure.

The Valley Home School PTC-sponsored “Let it Roll” Game Night dinner fundraiser held on Friday, March 2nd in the school multi-purpose building had a smaller turnout than in years past, however, it still proved to be an enjoyable and successful evening. PTC president, Sheri Rathbun offers many thanks to all those who attended - our donors, sponsors and committee members.

Things are always hopping in Valley Home! Our Valley Home 4-H’ers are making plans for their Annual Community Easter Egg Hunt. The Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 7th. As in the past, folks are invited to gather at the old school campus where the fun will begin shortly after noon. We are hearing rumors that the “Legend of Hoppi B, the long lost Valley Home Easter Bunny” may come alive again as “Hoppi” may be making his long awaited visit to the school campus. Again, hundreds of eggs will be colored by our Valley Home 4-H’ers. It is sure to be a “hoppy good time!” The 4-H’ers are especially looking forward to the egg coloring talents of Mr. Brian Brodoski and his delightful family. Everyone is invited to come and have a good time!

Christina sends word that the Valley Home Tri-Tip held on March 3rd was a great success! She tells us that they served over 200 people, had a delicious dinner and an assortment of desserts. We would like to thank everyone who made this dinner possible. We thank everyone who donated, attended, helped and worked. It was a fun filled evening. We raised $4,282.49 for our club and are already looking forward to next year’s 2nd annual dinner!

Valley Home residents were saddened to receive word that long-time resident, Olivia Smith passed away on Sunday, February 19th at Oak Valley Hospital. She was 76 years of age. Olivia was a long time resident of our community and involved in many of Valley Home activities throughout the years. She could always be found working at election time at the Valley Home voting place when it used to be held in the old Valley Home Volunteer Firehouse. Olivia’s late husband, Howard was one of the Valley Home Volunteer Firemen. Olivia also enjoyed taking care of the fish she raised in the pond located in the front yard of her home on Pioneer Avenue and could often be seen sitting by the pond, enjoying and taking care of the fish and plants.

Olivia will be remembered for her pleasant personality and winning smile and will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know and work with her. We offer our deepest sympathy to her children, Danny Smith and Michelle and family members in their loss.
